One of the more popular classes at RHS is the Speech and Drama class, taught by Mrs. Amy Jones. Mrs. Jones has been teaching for a total of 13 years; five of those have been as the speech and drama teacher at RHS. She also teaches the English classes. Morgan Smith is one of RHS students who placed in the state Speech and Drama competition, while also placing 9th in qualifying for National Speech and Debate. Morgan is a 16 year old student, and in her junior year. Morgan is small in stature, but powerful in presence. Her performance was an incredible statement on an important issue: child abuse. Jerome Johnson, also a student of Mrs. Jones in speech and drama, placed 2nd in the state finals for Speech and Drama competition. Jerome is 17 year old young man who moved here from Huntley, in December. Mrs. Jones said she was delighted to see Jerome come to RHS, having seen him compete several times before while in Huntley. Wednesday, April 21, a collaboration consisting of the 14th Judicial District Juvenile Probation, Drug Enforcement Agency and local Sheriff’s office presented a seminar to the public on how to watch for drug use, how drugs are being hidden, what types of drugs are out there, and how they are being marketed to youth. Ah, spring!!! Warmer air, puffy clouds, bird calls and songs, snow and ice melting. Such an uplifting time. But it’s also, as this area so readily knows, times of horrific hail, flood and fire. Additionally, eleven years ago in June 2010, a tornado did considerable damage to the convention/entertainment center in Billings. That tornado was the first one in the area since 1910. The 14th Judicial District Youth Court Probation Officer, along with Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and the Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office, will be providing a drug identification educational symposium for educators, administrators, faith-based personnel, parents and any other interested parties.
