Two years ago, this December Morgan Belveal and his partner Joey Campanella came to Roundup to take over the operation of Morgan's family business, the Big Sky Motel. Since then, they have continued to make improvements on the motel, tearing down the old unused portion and building a friendly gathering place for customers and friends, remodeling older rooms, and all-around making improvements. It has been nice to see the changes as we drive by on Main Street. Currently the two young...
It feels like forever since the dome coffee shop closed. All good things come to those who wait, and finally The Bean Counter is OPEN. The Independence Day celebrations will be even more exciting with the new Coffee Shop, The Cattle Drive Bakery N Coffee Corner, and our other businesses open for customers to get refreshments and snacks....
Time is passing, and those who have been anxious to see progress taking shape at the old grade school are continuously disappointed. Nothing seems to be getting done. The saddest part is the overgrown and neglected playground where Roundup children had so many memories. This once cheerful spot holds the shadow of loneliness, an empty nest if you will, of the children who once colored it. The swings now empty, the place where basketball and tag were played, now growing patches of weeds through...
Ever since the Corner Café sold; the community of Roundup has been looking forward to what is coming next. Rumors of a bakery were tickling the ears of locals. Finally, we can officially report that the rumors are indeed true, and by the time this goes to publication, the bakery will likely be open. Dave and Christy Wickhorst, owners, did a major remodeling of the building, and it is nearly unrecognizable from the old Corner Café. They split the place into two retail spaces. Currently they a...

New excitement is stirring in Musselshell County. Dinosaur bones were discovered when Eric Eliasson was out doing his usual rockhounding. Eric had a couple of contacts who connected him with Thomas Hebert. Thomas is the founder of a non-profit organization called Earth Sciences Foundation Inc. which can be found at www.letsdig.org. He came to Montana to meet with Eric and look at the fossils, from there the possibilities began to emerge for something big, very big, Jurassic in fact. My coworker...
On June 8th, Governor Greg Gianforte and Montana's First Lady, Susan Gianforte came to Roundup to recognize local veteran, Dan Barta, for his service. In a small ceremony in the basement of the museum, Greg presented Dan with the Montana Governor's Veteran Commendation for 2021. The local veterans surrounded Dan with their support, and two of our eldest veterans, Doug Parrot, and Vernon Kuhlmann (now 101 years old), were also in attendance along with some of Dan's family. Coffee and donuts were...
For six years, there has been a little-known annual event for Cross Country racing right here in Musselshell County. Mayor Jones has written a memoir of her life called "A Journey Beyond My Dreams". She began this writing journey about four years ago, for her family and for her grandchildren to have a reference point. Her hope was for them to realize that she was once a young girl, a young mother, and how she overcame difficult points in her life, as well as the successes that she achieved. "I overcame because of my faith." As she wrote the book, Sandra decided to publish it. As a public figure, it is a...
Though they have been in Roundup since 2018, you may not have known that Pronto Construction was a local business. Many locals struggle to find help with their building needs, and the local companies are often on two or three projects already. Pronto is no exception. You will often see the Pronto Trailer at the Hardware store on Main Street. They are currently bid out on contracts until next February with over twenty bathrooms to remodel and a waiting list on porches. I was personally referred...

Words are powerful little seeds that can create very life changing results. Speaking negatively can create a negative action and positive words can create positive actions. The fruit of action is the direct reflection and result of the powerful word seed. Because of the power of words, governments fear free speech. Religious and non-religious folks alike are fascinated with the unknown future. Religious folks looking to prophets, and non-religious seeking the astrology report or nearest fortune teller. Religious folks look to the power of...
For over two years, the Sellars sisters have had their flower shop on Mainstreet open. The minute you walk in the door of the shop the explosion of art is everywhere to be seen, and a rambunctious cockateel named Rocco, may fly over and land on your head. While offering a space for many local crafters/artists to sell their items, the overwhelming abundance of art is produced by Angie and Jessie. Artists since youth, the girls grew up on Short Cut Road without television and two artistic...
Tracy and Corey Anderson have opened a craft shop next to Big M Realty on the Main Highway at 25 1/2 1st Ave. West. The crafts are predominately wood kits that can be painted and assembled right at their shop with a guided lesson, or purchased as a kit to take and make at home. These kits make wonderful gifts, they are an easy to send through the mail, or wrap. They can also just be a project for a long winters' night. You don't have to have mad art skills to enjoy one of these projects, and...
Have you ever heard the expression "I have more month than money", or "I'm so broke I can't pay attention"? These expressions are common to most of us living paycheck to paycheck. We always want better for our children. We would like our children to become adults free from a consumer lifestyle, and have financial FREEDOM. Do your children understand terms like "Consumer Awareness", "Bargain Shopping", "Investing and Retirement", "Depreciation", and "Predatory Lender"? These are terms we want...
In collaboration with Mayor Jones Time to catch up with our city Mayor, Sandra Jones. With many water concerns lately, I was stirred to meet with our Mayor, Sandra Jones. For those who are not aware, or may have moved here recently, the city of Roundup has been working towards better water for the city of Roundup, a project that has taken many years to bring to fruition, and is still in process. Federal Authorization was given to The Central Montana Regional Water Authority for the project in...
For those of you who may have noticed the event in the paper last week for the meeting of the Musselshell Amateur radio club, you will have noticed that it is Ham Radio that the group is meeting about, not a radio group for the music you hear in your car. I wanted to know more about the club, and what they do. Having no understanding of this technology, but just curiosity, I met with the current organizer, Keith Regli. Keith maintains the website www.kf7elt.org, and writes the newsletters. Ham...
