Two more new signs sprouted up lately. 1st Security Bank and Big Sky Motel are both sporting new signs. 1st Security updated their reader board sign to a new color model. Per Shawn Dutton, the old sign had been in place for over 20 years, and parts to fix it were impossible to find. At the same time, the sign on the building face was updated to LED lighting and a newer brighter color. LED lights also were installed in the parking lot. A nice upgrade! Another good look on Main Street came to the...

Those Wayfinding Signs! Wayfinding signs - another joint effort of the Montana Main Street project as designed by Roundup resident Morgan Belveal. These signs point people to different attractions, important and historic buildings in town. They also point tourists and out-of-towners to important natural attractions. Johnny Chavez, Pronto Construction, and Morgan were instrumental in placing these signs in very specific intersections. Johnny of Pronto Construction generously donated part of his c...
Seen Around Town New Shopping on Main That vacant space at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Main Street? It's now filled. Tonia and Urban Bencomo opened 'Chanel's Little Bit of Everything' just the other day. The front window is an eye-catcher. Tonia will be selling her refurbished furniture. Then together with Urban, and other family members, will offer new and gently used items for sale. They are not taking donations of used items, as they do not consider this a thrift store. Store hours are in...
When the notice came out about an upcoming June election, I felt a need to understand a little more about what this election was about, and why an election is necessary. Mayor Sandra Jones recently took some time out of her busy day to explain a few facts to me about the election. As per the Montana Constitution, every ten years municipalities must vote on the type of government they wish for their town or city. There are choices and, as the Mayor pointed out, change is good and sometimes...

The new owner of 'The Back Porch' sat down with me and discussed the plans going forward. Anthony Buich and his wife Tayler are no strangers to the restaurant and hospitality field. Anthony and Tayler owned a restaurant in Monterey, CA before moving with their children to Roundup a few years ago. Anthony's father owns a restaurant, the 'Tadich Grill', located in the heart of San Francisco's financial district. 'Tadich Grill' is the oldest, continuously run restaurant in California, and third oldest in the United States. He wants to assure the...
I caught up with Linda Kane and her dog, Muttley, the other day to chat about her walk for 'Stop Soldier Suicide'. Linda and her furry friend are walking a mile a day during March to benefit soldiers that suffer from PTSD and other mental health issues that could lead to taking their own lives. Of her $200 goal for March, she reached that number earlier than expected thanks to the generosity of donors.. You can go to stopsoldiersuicide.org and donate directly to that organization. Or head over t...
Nothing gets attention like that big hole in the ground at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Main Street in Roundup. Once the site of a gas station, it now has a 20 foot deep hole. A leaky diesel storage tank in the past caused the DEQ, the Department of Environmental Quality, to dig up a lot of contaminated dirt on Tuesday last. Previous owners had to pay monies to the Superfund of the Federal Government to help foot this cleanup. Superfund is the trust fund set up by Congress to handle emergency...

Local resident Scott Praye first envisioned the Winter Gospel concerts back in 2021. While watching gospel music videos one Saturday afternoon, he thought of a free gospel concert. He tossed about the idea over a few months, and eventually gave Roundup the Winter Gospel event in 2022. It proved so successful he repeated it in 2023. And again this year Roundup was treated to an evening of gospel tunes. More than 75 citizens of all ages enjoyed gospel music from a wide variety of artists, all...
