  • Shawn Dutton and First Security Bank

    Lura Pitman|Jan 26, 2022

Shawn Dutton became the bank manager at First Security Bank eleven years ago. A Montanan all of his life, Shawn was born in Deer Lodge, and raised in Wisdom. After graduating college in Bozeman in the 1980's, he had two job offers. One for a feed mill in Jordan, and one for the bank in White Sulphur Springs. The pay was the same for both jobs, and he went into banking. Shawn would work at that bank for four years before moving in 1989 to Dutton Montana, where his banking career continued. In Dut...

  • Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage EVERAL EUGENE "SONNY" BUTTERFIELD (1929-2019)

    Jan 26, 2022

Everal Eugene Butterfield was birthed by his grandmother at the family home on December 21, 1929, on their farm near Hunter, Kansas to parents Fred T. and Edna Mae (Francis) Butterfield. He was the oldest of four children and was nicknamed “Sonny” at the age of six by an old bachelor. Sonny remembered hanging wet blankets on the windows to keep the dirt out during the depression era. The dust literally drifted into sand banks. His father earned fifty cents a day stacking thistle which was fed to their livestock. Sonny, along with his gra...

  • Pastor's Corner

    Jan 26, 2022

Life We have just remembered the anniversary of a Supreme Court ruling from January 22, 1973. It is more commonly known as Roe vs. Wade. It effectively made the aborting, or as we pro-lifers say, the murder of infants inside the womb of a woman legal. In 2020 the number of abortions globally, 42.6 million, became the leading cause of death in the world. I'm not writing to debate numbers; I only use this number to represent the pandemic of death among babies that many in our world accept as being good. Arguing and debating will probably get us...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Jan 26, 2022

Roundup Montana is a fascinating town. Located in central Montana, we see and share its rich history of coal mining and agriculture. Our fair town had its major growth between 1880's and 1920's. Roundup once peaked at 3,500 in population! We even had a taxicab service in early 1900's. I have lived in Roundup since 1996 and bought an old coal miners house in 1999 in our historic Camp three area just outside of city limits. I fell in love with Camp three and its historic patina. Many property owners in Roundup have remodeled old homes increasing...
