In 1882, the town of Roundup was established consisting of a little log store, a saloon, and an annual roundup that inspired the towns name. Twenty six years later, Greg Eiselein's grandfather Alfred William Eiselein established the Roundup Record. As it is recorded in "Roundup On the Musselshell" (available at the Museum), Young Alfred edited and published a newspaper in Danube, Minnesota. In March of 1908 at 23, he headed west landing in Miles City. Greg told me that within the next day Alfred...

Importance of The Document One of the components of the book of Daniel is the rise and fall of world empires. When the book begins, Daniel and others had been taken captive to Babylon, the first of the empires referenced in Daniel. Three others would follow in one form or another. Each would come and go. One after the other would have its time of dominance but would eventually fall and be replaced. These powers had differences that made them unique, but in each case, their dominance would only last for some time, at the most just a few hundred...
President Trump will represent the Republican party in 2020. Who will do the same for the Progressive Democrat party? As of now,all they have are Socialist and Marxist running. By Tim Mulligan For decades Montana has been the envy of hunters who pursue elk. Our state has healthy elk herds because of our incredible habitat on public and private lands. We enjoy the longest season in the West – with a six week archery season and a five week rifle season. No other state comes even close. With our strong elk herds comes challenges in their management. Landowners at times struggle with the damage that large groups of elk can cause to crops, haystacks and fences. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is faced with a constant b...
For over a century and a half, until 1934, the Indian account of George Washington’s divine protection in the Battle of Monongahela in the French and Indian War was standard in our history textbooks until removed, presumably by those skeptical or dismissive of God’s intervention in the affairs of man. Today few Americans know of it as those in the above category and the enemies of the Republic seek to belittle our Founders. We celebrate the birthday of George Washington February 22, by returning our attention to this miraculous event. In the Fr...

Too much of a good thing can mean death for indoor plants. Overwatering is a good example of this and a common problem for indoor gardeners. For others it’s the opposite extreme, allowing plants to go too dry. Knowing when to water your indoor plants can increase gardening success and eliminate the stress of uncertainty. The first step is to throw away your watering schedule. Start watering plants based on their individual need not the date on the calendar. Consider the type of plant, container material and size as well as other growing c...

By Jennifer Bergin At the airport on my way back from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Annual Convention, I reflected on the questions and comments I hear in my local community, in the big city, when traveling and from friends and family. These include, among others: You are so involved in Farm Bureau; you must have been raised in it. You must have been in FFA – you are so involved in agriculture and educating about it. What agriculture degree do you have? What did your family raise on you...
Last Thursday was senior night for the Roundup Panthers. It was our time to say thank you to the seniors for four years of hard work and to their parents for supporting them in every step of the way. It is always a difficult night as emotions are high and anxiety is amped up for their last performance in their home gym. A quick start in a game is always good to settle the nerves. Unfortunately, the Panthers did the exact opposite as they struggled to make baskets and ran into some early foul...
By Samantha Elliott Friday night brought a bright light to the Winnett Gym. After many seniors were recognized, a slight sadness covered the small-town crowd. It hit a lot of people that this would be the seniors last home game of their high school careers. The Winnett school was given the MHSA Academic award for excellence on and off the fields and courts of the high school scene. All four of the senior girls from Winnett graced us with what was the last time we would hear any of them sing the...

The US is the world leader for extracting natural gas and oil resources from shale and tight formations. Unfortunately, Democratric presidential candidates want to ban or restrict drilling. What started as a rallying cry by enviornmental groups to “keep it in the ground,” has evolved in the 2020 campaign season with calls to ban or restrict fracking. Numerous Democrats have jumped on the bandwagon, with many asserting they will do what they can to restrict or ban the process if they are elected. Energy industry leader, Daniel Yergin, vice cha...

In 1900 in Modersville, Michigan, Peter Siderius arrived into this world. He was the second of 14 children born to Everet Siderius and his wife, Gertrude De Boer, both immigrants from the Netherlands. In 1907, when land was opening up in Montana, the family moved to Kalispell, where, as a child, Peter helped the family financially by delivering their farm's milk and other products around town and to the Flathead Reservation. Another responsibility of Peter's was to run and fetch the midwife...
