It was quite lovely, and Shelley mentioned that Joann does the store and changes things each Tuesday. Purchases from the store help raise money for RSVP. Shelly was excited to tell me of the newest fundraising event coming up. RSVP will be creating with the help of others, a generational cookbook, with favorite family recipes from all...

  • Pastor's Corner

    Mar 11, 2020

BEING SPIRITUAL I really need Jesus’ help- more on some days than others –and if you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I will sell you cheap – it isn’t true of course, but some days I feel that way. So, the other day when I was really feeling like I needed His direction while doing 4 errands in Billings, I prayed that God would just take over my day and lead me and guide me wherever I needed to go and when. I sort of had the trip planned out in my mind and the order of the stops. But, I released all my will and told Him it was His wil...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Mar 11, 2020

Don’t overlook the importance of private lands To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, a series of talks at the Bighorn National Recreation Area is highlighting the benefits of public lands. It’s a worthy cause. But as Earth Day approaches, another topic deserves as much attention: the benefits that private lands provide to our western heritage. Private lands play an important but often-overlooked role in sustaining many of the things we cherish most about the West. Whether it’s abundant wildlife, clean water, or vast open space...

  • Our medical innovation system is under assault

    Betsy Nabel|Mar 11, 2020

Since finishing medical school nearly 40 years ago, I've witnessed American scientists develop hundreds of lifesaving medicines that once seemed unimaginable. While leading the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, I saw scientists pioneer novel ways to treat rare and serious blood disorders in children. During my tenure as president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, researchers have cured hepatitis C, a once-fatal liver disease that killed nearly 2...

  • Democrat Dilemma: Old, White, Socialist, Rich, Men

    Harold Pease PhD|Mar 11, 2020

For three years the Democratic Party media outlets: MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and CBS railed against old, white, rich, men. These, represented by Donald Trump, were viewed as the enemies of the people. But look at their presidential contenders, mostly old, white privileged, rich men. President Trump took office at the age of 70, the oldest president in U.S. History. But on the Democratic stage of February 7, all seven still debating were old or white privileged. Ironically all claiming racial injustice by their own race, something none had personally...

  • Yes, Trump Should Talk with the Taliban

    Thomas L Knapp|Mar 11, 2020

On March 3, US president Donald Trump spoke (via telephone) with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, chief of the Taliban's Doha diplomatic office and signer, on behalf of his organization, of the recently concluded Afghanistan "peace deal." "The direct contact between an American president and a top Taliban leader would once have been unthinkable," writes Michael Crowley at the New York Times. Why? Crowley doesn't elaborate, but in my opinion the claim of unthinkability goes a long way toward explaining why the US government spent nearly two decades...

  • Early Spring Preparation for a Beautiful Summer Garden

    Melinda Myers|Mar 11, 2020

As winter fades into spring, gardeners can’t wait to get busy in the garden. Pruning, cutting back perennials and ornamental grasses and preparing the garden for spring planting are just a few of the tasks. Keep yourself and the pollinators overwintering in your garden safe as you start the cleanup process. Always prune with a purpose. Start by removing any damaged and diseased stems from shrubs and roses. Watch for insects like swallowtail butterflies that overwinter in protective cocoons and the egg masses of some like the hairstreak b...

  • Frontier Spa

    Larry and Jane Stanfel|Mar 11, 2020

A few miles outside Miles City in 1956 Shell Oil drilled 8,230 feet before all Hell broke loose. Instead of oil they struck a vein of hot, high pressure water, the same for which Yellowstone Park is famous. From April to June the drillers sought to plug it, for they were convinced that oil lay beneath the steamy layer. On 7 June drilling resumed, only to blow again at 8,256 feet deep. On the third attempt, the Fourth of July, the geyser erupted like a patriotic rocket from a depth of 8, 840...
