  • Dorwin Schreuder, Montana Author

    Lura Pitman|Jun 9, 2021

One fine day in mid-May, I was just closing up at the office when a fellow named Dorwin Schreuder walked in asking if we do book reviews in our paper. I said we had not, but we surely could consider it. Thinking Dorwin was going to be adding some weekly commentary on books I was surprised when he presented "As the Twig is Bent" a book that he himself had written. He was here in Roundup to get a cover photo from along the Musselshell River for the sequel he just finished called, "Just Across the...

  • Roundup Chamber's Parade July 2nd and 3rd

    Jun 9, 2021

It is time again to be thinking about summer sun and fun! This year the parade will be held on July 2th and July 3th. We understand that there are some questions about not having the Parade on the actual 4th of July. The Chamber works closely with the R.I.D.E. Committee and because the Parade and the Youth Rodeo “Buttons and Bows” were a time conflict the decision was made. There is no entry fee. The theme for this year’s Parade will be “Honoring our Local Heroes.” It is especially exciting this year as our Grand Marshals will be General P...

  • Letter's to the Editor

    Jun 9, 2021

Against Leftwing Extremism in the Military Our institutions aren’t what they once were. Opinion polls show overwhelmingly that trust in the government, in Congress, and in business has fallen in previous years and remains low. One exception is the military, which is consistently among our most respected institutions. This reputation has been hard-won, over decades of apolitical service to the nation. Americans recognize that service by honoring our servicemen and women, and extending our armed forces enormous respect and deference. That legacy,...

  • Who Ran America Before President Trump?

    Harold Pease PhD|Jun 9, 2021

America in 2015, before the movement that brought Donald J. Trump to power, felt deceived and betrayed in virtually every election by what was called the establishment. No matter how they voted, or who they sent to Washington, the parties seemed more the same than different and little actually changed. Most felt something was wrong but few could articulate what that exactly was, but it was something. Some hidden force played a role. For the first time in U.S. History the establishment was toxic to voters in the 2016 presidential election. It...

  • A Convention of States Wouldn't Fix the US Constitution

    Jun 9, 2021

The Convention of States Project seeks, as its name reflects, a convention of states as provided for in Article V of the US Constitution. Such a convention, CPS claims, would "only allow" discussion of amendments that "limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials." The magic number of states for calling a convention is 34. According to a map on the CPS site, 15 states have passed the required resolution, while one legislative chamber has passed it in nine, and...

I read with piqued interest the letter from Ms. Parks in your publication, regarding the public education system and her derivement of education and students behavior. We see daily news reports of mandates affecting our youths educational standards- from common core to critical race theory, and have to wonder what students in todays classrooms are being presented with, and if the viewpoints of todays educators align with those presented at home. It is the elected school boards responsibility and duty to adopt a curriculum and approve...

Three quarters of Montana's hunting districts have an elk population above the sustainable population objective set by the Montana Fish & Game Commission, with over thirty districts at more than double the objective number. "This has been the trend for years—the elk population continues to grow far beyond what the biologists estimate as a healthy, sustainable level," said Chuck Denowh, the policy d...
