  • Hello Roundup and Surrounding Communities

    Jun 10, 2020

The Roundup Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 4th parade. Like with RIDE, there were too many rules and regulations set by the Central Montana Health District that had to be followed and observed to make the parade worth having and enjoyable for everyone participating and watching. A health plan would need to be submitted to and approved by CMHD, Musselshell DES, and the Musselshell County Sheriff's Office. The plan would need to include the following: • Bottles of hand sanitizer would have to be placed at e...

  • Pastor's Corner

    Jun 10, 2020

Why Can’t We Get Along Once again, we find ourselves struggling to maintain some sort of a semblance of a civilized country. One act of anger, or hatred, or whatever it was, has turned the nation into a volatile powder keg. How does it happen so easily and quickly? After all, it is nothing new. If you know your Bible, you know that Cain killed his brother Able in the fourth chapter of Genesis. It didn't take long before the inner core of man, because of sin, was subject to the impulses of doing harm to his or her fellow human being. And g...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Jun 10, 2020

I hope you all keep our fallen during battles for freedom in your thoughts this past Memorial day. This also must have reminded you that the Progressive Socialist party [former Democrat] did illegally impose a "Nanny state} on you and also House arrest threats. These people like Pelosi, Schumer, Newsom, Cuomo and our own Governor, Steve Bullock, became the tyrants our Founders warned us about.Sadly, here in Roundup, look at our courthouse. I saw murder tape that separated people as they entered the Musselshell courthouse. As if this was not...

  • Embrace free trade to defeat COVID-19

    Jun 10, 2020

By Philip Stevens At the 73rd World Health Assembly, public health officials from dozens of countries gathered virtually to discuss strategies to defeat COVID-19. One strategy worth pursuing? Tearing down trade barriers. Every country needs access to medical supplies as cheaply as possible. But many governments raise the price of these supplies by levying needless tariffs on medicines, personal protective equipment, and vaccines. Ecuador, for instance, imposes a 55 percent levy on personal protective equipment. And India charges a 10% tax on...

  • What the Coronavirus did to the National Debt, Your Bill Exceeds $37,726

    Harold Pease PhD|Jun 10, 2020

In March Congress added $2.3 trillion to the national debt with the stimulus package. Most were jubilant to receive a stimulus check. But what does this mean? Just to pay this back today would cost each taxpayer $18,863 (compare U.S. Debt Clocks Nov. 2019 with April 2020). In May the Treasury Department announced that it will borrow another $3 trillion this quarter making our total coronavirus indebtedness $5.3 trillion and thus what we owed for the smaller loan more than doubles (Matt Egan, The US is becoming the king of debt. It's a...

  • Quorum Call: Don't Expect the Constitution to Stop Pelosi's House Hijinks

    Thomas L Knapp|Jun 10, 2020

In mid-May, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution authorizing remote voting by proxy. Per the resolution, one congressperson may vote on behalf of up to ten others. In theory, as few as 40 of the House's 435 members could show up in Washington for the House to do business. But Article I, Section 5 of the US Constitution says otherwise: "[A] Majority of each [house of Congress] shall constitute a Quorum to do Business." That means 218 members must be present for the House to do anything. As May draws to a close and the House...

  • THE THEFT OF OUR VESTED WATER RIGHTS ON BLM ADMINISTERED LANDS

    Jun 10, 2020

Water rights in Montana have been the topic of much discussion and rulings, both legislatively and judicially, over the past 40 plus years. To say this has resulted in a totally confused mess would be an understatement. When the dust finally settled it became apparent that vested water rights on allotments managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Montana were being taken away from the private citizens. How did this happen? After many hours of poring through historic and recent water rights documents, I discovered the main problem was...

  • MSU Geologist Devon Orme Wins National Science Foundation CAREER Award

    Jun 10, 2020

By Rachel Hergett, MSU News Service BOZEMAN — When Devon Orme looks at a mountain range, she sees more than its towering beauty. She thinks about how it formed, the unseen forces that built it and the rocks making up its slopes. She sees a slow series of processes occurring over millions of years, what she calls “deep time.” “Geology is very much a way to look at the landscape and also understand it in the aspect of time,” said Orme, an assistant professor in the Department of Earth Sciences in the College of Letters and Science at MSU.Orme...

    Melinda Myers|Jun 10, 2020

So, you filled your shopping cart and gardens with lots of new shrubs, flowers, and vegetables. Now what? Keep your plants looking their best with minimal effort so you can enjoy them and your summer even more. Watering is one task where I find even experienced gardeners struggle. Proper watering is key. Too much or not enough water can result in yellow, wilting and even death of plants. Check container plantings daily. Stick your finger into the soil and water whenever the top few inches of soil is starting to dry. Water thoroughly so the exce...

    Jun 10, 2020

By Anne Cantrell, MSU News Service BOZEMAN — It’s common to hear about young adults choosing not to live in rural Montana, but what often goes undiscussed are the reasons young adults do choose to move to rural parts of the state, according to Montana State University researcher Sarah Schmitt-Wilson. “There’s a huge misconception that young adults are not actively choosing to live in rural Montana,” said Schmitt-Wilson, assistant teaching professor in the College of Education, Health and Human Development’s Department of Education.
