  • Dinosaur Bones Stir New Interest In Musselshell County

    Lura Pitman|Jun 15, 2022

New excitement is stirring in Musselshell County. Dinosaur bones were discovered when Eric Eliasson was out doing his usual rockhounding. Eric had a couple of contacts who connected him with Thomas Hebert. Thomas is the founder of a non-profit organization called Earth Sciences Foundation Inc. which can be found at www.letsdig.org. He came to Montana to meet with Eric and look at the fossils, from there the possibilities began to emerge for something big, very big, Jurassic in fact. My coworker...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Jun 15, 2022

Public Swimming Pool To Mayor Jones and Roundup City Council, It was upsetting that the pool was not open on time again this year (June 1st). The pool closed early last year due to the leak which is only now being repaired. There always seems to be some problem, be it broken boiler parts or personal problems, which make the swimming pool season shorter for the community. It appears that the public swimming pool is low on the list of priorities for Roundup public officials, though it should not be. This is unfortunate. There are many people and...

  • The Corporate Welfare Devil is in the "Clean Energy" Details

    Thomas L Knapp|Jun 15, 2022

On June 6, US president Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act "to accelerate domestic manufacturing of clean energy." That goal sounds laudable and, for those of us who don't own stock in oil or coal companies, probably uncontroversial. But once we start focusing on the details, Biden's order turns out to be just another crony capitalist boondoggle that's more likely to increase prices and slow adoption than the other way around. Let's start with the situation as it is, according to the Department of Energy's press release: "Demand for...

  • MSU Extension Specialist Discusses Fertilizing Mid-Season if Yield Goals Increase

    Jun 15, 2022

Fields across Montana may be under-fertilized if fertilizer rates were based on drought conditions, since snow and rain this spring increased potential yields in some areas, according to Clain Jones, a soil fertility specialist with Montana State University Extension. Jones said that this year, producers may have fertilized less because of very high fertilizer costs combined with early-season drought. But, with recent rains in some areas, there may not now be enough of certain nutrients in the ground for optimum yields. While drought is still...
