Ever since the Corner Café sold; the community of Roundup has been looking forward to what is coming next. Rumors of a bakery were tickling the ears of locals. Finally, we can officially report that the rumors are indeed true, and by the time this goes to publication, the bakery will likely be open. Dave and Christy Wickhorst, owners, did a major remodeling of the building, and it is nearly unrecognizable from the old Corner Café. They split the place into two retail spaces. Currently they a...
The Tree Board of the City of Roundup has once again installed Tree Gators on almost all trees planted in the last year on the boulevards of the residential sections. The new directive on the Gators is that they be filled as needed; that is, when they are empty. The Gators will distribute water as the tree requires. There is a tag on the Gators that covers the hole for hose placement for filling. It takes mere minutes to fill these Gators. The City Ordinance specifies that care is the...
Beneath its cryptic title and suggestive cover photo, this novel traces the deflection and bending of entire life directions and interweaves them in surprising and dramatic ways across a background of political intrigue, medicine, music, and athletics. Set in the period between the Prague Spring and the collapse of European Communism, Black Keys is primarily a tissue of love stories involving interesting people in interesting situations. Their interconnecting tales sprawl over American suburbs, the empty splendor of Wyoming, and the artistic...
Come laugh and cringe as Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (MSIP) preforms Twelfth Night, or What You Will the Monday following the 4th of July. Named after the festival at which the play was first premiered for Queen Elizabeth I in 1601, there is perhaps no more rousing, amusing, or lyrical celebration of the transforming delight of love and the anguished follies that may arise. MSIP has set this play of illusions in a Cajun bayou, for a more modern look at the complex paths of love. Twelfth...
Dear Editor, Doctors to not warn their patients against unhealthy behaviors because they hate them. Lawyers do not warn their clients against unhealthy behaviors because they hate them. Mothers and Fathers do not warn their children against unhealthy behaviors because they hate them. Christians do not warn their neighbors against unhealthy behaviors because they hate them. Christians, above all, want what is best for their neighbors. At its recent convention, The Montana District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, warned their neighbors...
On June 22, by popular demand, US president Joe Biden asked Congress to pass a three month "holiday" on collection of the federal gasoline tax. With prices hovering at around $5 per gallon, Americans want something done. I'm all for it. I hate taxes, and I'm all for tax cuts, in any amount, for any length of time. Yay, Biden! But before breaking into a collective happy dance over the "holiday" proposal and how great it's going to be for our wallets, let's look at some numbers. According to the US Energy Information Administration, Americans...
Those in power, at the moment, aim to destroy the 2nd Amendment by any means possible and with-it liberty. They know what they are doing. A favorite tool for them are “red flag” laws. These trespass the 2nd amendment as well as the IV, V, VI and XIV. Let us examine the damage done to each. Amendment II reads in part, “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Government is specifically denied making ANY laws concerning the people’s right to bear arms. No exceptions are permitted outside a new amendment through A...
Justice Alito’s opinion laying out why “Roe and Casey must be overruled” is a masterpiece of dignified but nonetheless devastating criticism. He makes a formidable case not only for reversing Roe argument but for crowning it as the worst reasoned opinion in the Court’s history. Alito surely makes a better case than John Ely did for his memorable put-down of Harry Blackmun’s handiwork: that Roe was “not constitutional law and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be.” Alito quotes this “infamous” line in Dobbs. Now he can own it. Th...
