  • Pastor's Corner - Wise vs. Foolish

    Aug 28, 2019

One of the most popular old Sunday school chorus’ is “The Wise Man and the Foolish Man.” I’ve been singing that song for over 60 years, scripture is its source, and it is direct teaching from Jesus. The passage is from Matthew 7:24-27. It is a reminder of some of the basics of our faith that even as children, we can understand. Jesus teaches us that not everyone will have eternal life with God in heaven. Even though some look like they are followers of Jesus, and they profess to be a disciple of Jesus, there will come a time when God will re...

  • "All went to the university … where they came out all the same"

    Harold Pease PhD|Aug 28, 2019

Student unrest in many universities demonstrates what is becoming obvious; institutions of higher learning are becoming radicalized and project intolerance for anything but a liberal view. Too few permit conservative or libertarian speakers and far fewer a constitutionalist. I was not surprised, some years ago, to hear a mother share with me her son’s fear that he did not wish to attend college because he did not wish to be politically indoctrinated. Parents increasingly worry about the radicalization of their children as well. As the years g...

  • Modernizing Outdated Oil Rules Helps Workers

    Robert L. Bradley Jr.|Aug 28, 2019

The Interior Department just revised a series of Obama-era regulations governing offshore oil and gas drilling -- and environmentalists are hopping mad. Recently, green groups including the Sierra Club and EarthJustice filed a lawsuit against Interior's update. These groups claim the Trump administration is "softening" and "relaxing" safety standards. That's not true. The revision simply cuts redundant federal regulations, making it easier for private offshore companies to manage risks. The department deserves applause for boosting workers'...

Create attractive potted gardens by combining asters, mums, grasses, cool weather edibles and other fall beauties. Spruce up an existing container by replacing weather worn annuals with fresh fall favorites. Pansies, sweet alyssum and dianthus are just a few annuals that hit their stride as c...

  • Feds Step up Probe on China's 'Thousand Talents Plan' After Convictions

    Jeff Mordock, The Washington Times|Aug 28, 2019

Feng “Franklin” Tao collected tens of thousands of dollars a year from U.S. taxpayers for his research into sustainable technology for the University of Kansas. The problem, prosecutors say, is that the chemistry professor was already working for a Chinese university — an affiliation he hid from his American employers. Mr. Tao was indicted last week on one count of wire fraud and three counts of program fraud. He is the latest Chinese researcher in the U.S. to be accused of double-dealing, and he could be sentenced to 30 years in prison and f...

  • THE LACKEY RANCH

    Larry and Jane Stanfel|Aug 28, 2019

When reminiscing about the Matson's, we brushed across the Lackey family, for William and his wife were homesteaders on what later became Emil Matson's ranch. William insisted that his family live in his backyard, as he expressed it, so when their son, Burley, married Esther, they bought a place a few miles – even backyards are large in Montana – from his parents. Driving a mile west on Big Wall Road from its intersection with North Gage, one finds a gumbo track heading north to a cluster of...
