  • The Cross Country Piecemakers' Retreat was Held August 22 – 25th

    Kathy Hollenback

The Cross Country Piecemakers' retreat Retreat was August 22 – 25th. Once again we went to Abba Haven and about 30 women attended. We enjoyed a large room where tables were set up and filled with our sewing machines. It was amazing what can be accomplished when concentrating on our projects. We had group activities such as Friday - making a padded pot-holder and dice games with Fat-quarters interspersed. Another activity was "Chair Yoga" Jennifer Pisle from the Roundup Dae Myung talked us t...

  • Pastor's Corner - More on 'Repent'

    Sep 18, 2019

Old Testament idea of Who God is. He is always telling me and others that God is going to ‘get’ them for their misdeeds and that they will suffer punishment. That may be true in the time to come, but in this time of Grace, not Law, that is not true. What do we need to repent of-we need to repent (metanoia-change your mind) of Who God is because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Love, mercy, compassion, wanting to bless His chosen family-us. Yet we reject Him and His lovingkindness. Once I sat in a church service where it was bei...

  • Who's Afraid of Religious Reasoning?

    Lewis Waha|Sep 18, 2019

If people fear what they don’t understand, then one of the most feared things today is religious liberty. It’s standard practice for mainstream and left-leaning news outlets to handle the notion with scare quotes when it conflicts with the civil rights claims of sexual minorities. Reporters routinely relay the talking point that religious liberty is just “a license to discriminate.” That narrative got a boost last week when a viral video showed a Mississippi wedding venue operator citing her religious beliefs in refusing to serve an interra...

  • Your Vote, Your Voice: Don't Waste It

    Thomas L Knapp|Sep 18, 2019

More than a year out from the 2020 presidential election, we're already starting to see "spoiler" fear-mongering from supporters of America's two largest political parties and their candidates. Will formerly Republican congressman Justin Amash of Michigan run for president as a Libertarian or independent in 2020? How about formerly Republican, formerly Democrat, formerly independent, former Rhode Island governor and US Senator, now Wyoming Libertarian Lincoln Chafee? Or former Democratic congresswoman and 2008 Green Party nominee Cynthia...

  • Letter to Editor: Not Much Change

    Sep 18, 2019

How much longer is the rural population of Musselshell Co. going to put up with the terrible conditions of our so-called gravel roads? Any discussion about these conditions is met with the same old answer by Mr. Stockert, who is in charge of the roads, and the County Comissionsers, and that is: "We have 500 miles of roads to maintain and only $90,000 with which to maintain them, and there is no more gravel available to put on the roads". I have a suggestion for the above mentioned people. We...

  • Constitution Day: The Forgotten Holiday

    Harold Pease PhD|Sep 18, 2019

This Tuesday, September 17, is Constitution Day, arguably the most forgotten designated day in America. The mainstream media will say nothing of it. No parades or city council proclamations. No three-day weekend, beer busts or barbecues in its favor. It is as though it never happened. Probably not one in ten can tell what happened this day in 1787; it has been forgotten so long. Still, this day the Constitutional Convention ended and the Constitution was sent to the states for ratification thus institutionalizing liberty in America more fully....

  • Obituaries

    Sep 18, 2019

Ellen Joyce Williams Lee September 5, 1947 -- September 4, 2019 Ellen Joyce was born to George and Geraldine Williams on Sept. 5, 1947 in Butte, America. Herbig heart decided to call it quits just short of her 72nd birthday. Ellen grew up in Walkerville, playing in the clay hills, riding her bike -- known as her pink Ford -- and having fun with her many cousins. Growing up in Walkerville meant Ellen was not to be messed with. But that didn't mean she wasn't an absolute sweetheart. She never met a dog she didn't love and vice versa. Her smile was...

  • Get the Most Out of Your Tomato Harvest

    Melinda Myers|Sep 18, 2019

Nothing beats the flavor of fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes and when they’re left on the plant five to eight days after the fruit are fully colored, the flavor only gets better.Check plants regularly and keep harvesting, so the plants continue to produce throughout the fall. This also reduces problems with insects and disease attacking overripe or rotting fruit. Store the mature red tomatoes in cool, 45- to 50-degree, conditions with high humidity and they’ll last about 7 to 14 days.Consider pinching off the growing tip of indeterminate tomatoes...

  • Beckman Ranch

    Larry and Jane Stanfel|Sep 18, 2019

Publisher Note: Due to an editorial oversight, the Beckman Ranch story is being rerun in its entirety. Not all our early ranchers were homesteaders. Born in Minnesota, Albert Beckman came to Roundup to work as a carpenter, found all the homestead land claimed, and bought a section from the Northern Pacific Railroad for $9.00 per acre. In 1917, when he was 30, he married Cora Strike, 18, who lived around Devil's Lake. For a couple of years, they camped in a tent, until Albert hauled lumber 100...
