Good Budgeting is not a secret. It is based off of prior year’s actuals and anticipated revenue. The accounting functions of Government budgets was the tough part of bringing the county into compliance. We had to learn all that because we no longer had a financial officer. Now that we are in compliance and have all the audits and reports in, we were able to set a much more accurate budget that fit the county’s ability to pay a fair wage and provide services. I’m proud of the work we’ve put in for the last year. We are already working on the...
By John Grassy Communications Officer MT Dept. Natural Resources and Conservation The pace is picking up at the Bair-Collins Mine Reclamation Project in Roundup. Is My Faith Relevant to My Voting? column, which addressed the number one criteria for me to vote for someone. It is a question I will ask or seek to find out from a candidate. The question is, "What do you believe about a baby's rights in a mother's womb?" The answer to that tells me a lot about the candidate and particularly their view of God. This brings up a question that some might ask. "Is it right to base my vote on just my spiritual beliefs?" Shouldn't there be more to it than just this aspect of life? I want to address that question...
Progressive Liberals are gas lighting us again on climate change. The fires in states like Califrnia and Oregon and Washington, were started by PAID professional arson maniacs, like Antifa and BLM. If climate change does exist, and I have heard this BS in different forms for decades, why doesn't either of our neighbors like Canada and Mexico see random fires? Now krazee Joe Biden who forgets what country he lives in, tells us a line of political garbage, that if Trump gets re-elected we will see more fires and climate change in country. Hahaha...
Ryan K. Zinke, former Navy SEAL Commander, US Congressman, and 52nd United States Secretary of Interior America is under siege. We are threatened by an enemy that is undermining the very foundations of our Constitution and the American values that have created, in the words of Ronald Reagan, the world’s “shining city on a hill.” This war against the heartland is not being waged by our traditional global adversaries or even the jihadist terrorists who have vowed to destroy America and everything in it. This is a battle being fought from withi...

The cold front last week was a nice reprieve from the hot temperatures and haze of late summer. But it was also a good reminder that some of our feathered friends will be heading south soon. This is a good time to make sure we are doing what we can to make their migration trip safe and successful. “Shorter days and cooler temperatures spur fall migration in migratory birds,” said Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Avian Conservation Biologist Allison Begley. “This can be a hard time for birds, but there are ways that we can help improve their...

The last audit on record with the...

By Meaghan MacDonald-Pool, MSU News Service BOZEMAN — Adam Mendelsohn and his family watched helplessly on Sept. 5 as distant wildfires crept closer to their house off Jackson Creek Road. It was just before Bridger Canyon Road closed and mandatory evacuations were ordered as the Bridger Foothills fire raged. The family’s home, which they had lived in for two and a half years, was destroyed that night. They lost everything. “I was completely terrified and sad and crying a lot,” said Mendelsohn, 13. “But it’s more of the memories and not as much...

My family enjoys camping and cooking over a fire. These hearty foil-packet potatoes turn out beautifully over a campfire, on the grill or in the oven at home. We sometimes leave out the sausage and serve the potatoes as a side dish. Either way, it’s so easy, and the spuds can be served right from the foil pouch for easy cleanup. The recipe also tastes amazing when cooked in a Dutch oven. —Julie Koets, Elkhart, Indiana TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Cook: 30 min.YIELD: 8 servings Ingredients • 3 pou...
