Have you ever heard the expression "I have more month than money", or "I'm so broke I can't pay attention"? These expressions are common to most of us living paycheck to paycheck. We always want better for our children. We would like our children to become adults free from a consumer lifestyle, and have financial FREEDOM. Do your children understand terms like "Consumer Awareness", "Bargain Shopping", "Investing and Retirement", "Depreciation", and "Predatory Lender"? These are terms we want...

Not only is Hayley stepping up and making a difference in her community and world,...
As it seems to be a constant bane of contemplations, I once again am persuaded to highlight the ineptness of understanding of communication and transparency from the Roundup Public School district and the administrators and elected board charged directly with keeping the taxpaying members of this community informed. In prior letters I have featured innumerable examples of the disregard of respect of direct communication for the community in which the Roundup Public Schools serve - including publishing board agendas, random days off for...
In Montana, cattle outnumber people by nearly three to one, so it’s no wonder that Montana beef plays such a large role in our rich legacy of agriculture and our economy. Montana ranchers take pride in producing the best cattle and highest-quality beef in the world. The last thing they should have to worry about is getting a fair price for their product. I’m hearing concerns from hardworking Montana cattle producers who are struggling to compete with the four biggest packers who currently dominate the market. These large packers face ser...
At this point in my life, I've been consistently opposed to war for about twice as long as I spent as a Marine infantryman (with precisely the attitude toward war you would expect). The change was incremental and took a few years, but I consider my decision to march in the streets against the 2003 US invasion of Iraq to have been moral, and my decision to march in formation toward participation in the 1991 Gulf War to have been immoral. Every international conflict tests that conviction: Will THIS be the one war that makes me reconsider and...

TOTAL TIME: Prep: 30 min. Cook: 1-1/2 hours YIELD: 4 servings. I've always enjoyed cabbage rolls but didn't make them since most methods were too complicated. This recipe is fairly simple and results in the best cabbage rolls. My husband, Sid, requests them often. They're terrific to share at gatherings with our children and grandchildren. —Beverly Zehner, McMinnville, Oregon Ingredients: 1 medium head cabbage 1-1/2 cups chopped onion, divided 1 tablespoon butter 2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) I...
Mary Purcell enjoys the artwork, especially the pen + ink drawings. The exquisite woman’s face in the entryway by Nik Carpenter is one of her favorites. The drawing is of Clara Lehfeldt Egge (1892-1975). It was drawn by Nik Carpenter from a 1913 photograph. What is your favorite exhibit or artifact at the Musselshell Valley Historical Museum? If you want to share one of your favorites, I would be glad to include a photo of the exhibit. Mary Purcell gave me three of her favorite exhibits. So, I...
