  • Letters to the Editor

    Oct 19, 2022

By now, most of you who follow daily news have heard about the Florida Governor DeSantis flying illegal Aliens from Texas to Martha's Vineyard. It is a very appropriate place to send these lawless illegals who crossed into our country illegally breaking Federal Laws of our immigration policy. It is the playground of wealthy Democrats like the Kennedy family who vote for open borders. Our southern border was shut down, closed in the 1920's until do gooder Senator Ted Kennedy submitted a bill entitled, The Immigration Act. This did cause a uproar...

  • Vote Republican for common sense solutions

    Oct 19, 2022

It's election season, also known as the season of misleading information. A prime example is what appears to be Montana Democrats' main talking point on legislative races: "If the Republicans can flip just two more legislative seats, they're coming after the constitution." What the Democrats fail to mention is that the Legislature cannot change Montana's Constitution. It says right there in the constitution that any proposed amendments have to be voted on by Montana voters. At most, the Legislature can propose amendments for the voters to...

  • Federal cannabis policy creates challenges in Indian country

    Oct 19, 2022

Last year state policymakers were presented with the challenge of setting up a regulatory and tax regime for adult-use cannabis after a bipartisan majority of voters enacted I-190 in the 2020 election. Though cannabis policy is still a work in progress, we got a lot of things right to ensure that the industry was set up responsibly in Montana. Our fledgling cannabis industry comes with a great deal of opportunity for Montanans. Already we are seeing new jobs being created by entrepreneurs setting up businesses from cultivation to retail to...

    Oct 19, 2022

October is Fire Prevention Month. This is a good time to check your fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, and to make sure your family has a plan for leaving your home in case of a fire. Another way to stay safe year-round is to eliminate smoking from your home. Not only will this help prevent accidental fire, it also will protect your family members, visitors, and petsfrom secondhand smoke. Montana statistics from the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) show cigarettes contributed to at least 38 residential fires in 2020,...

  • Letters to the Editor

I’ve written before about range stockwater rights. The federal government has decided (wrongly!) that the existence of ruminant animals is destroying the climate, and they want to have a clear path to removing cattle from the United States. Big city enviros resent people living in non-urban areas, because they believe that all non-urban areas should be playgrounds for the wealthy, and they resent the presence of locals in their playgrounds. Historically, stockwater rights have proven to be one of the most powerful protections against these t...
