  • There Is No "Simple" Solution To Property Taxes

    Dec 11, 2024

By: Senator Greg Hertz In recent opinion pieces, Evan Barrett, a longtime Democratic consultant, and Mike Jopek, a former Democratic legislator, have repeatedly provided their "simple solution" to our high property taxes in Montana: just lower the residential property tax rate to 0.76%. If it truly was that simple, both Democrat and Republican legislators would have already done it. The reason it hasn't happened is because it wouldn't work like Barrett, Jopek, and others claim. Property tax rates don't work like income taxes or sales taxes. If...

I sure do miss the peace and quiet of our town Roundup. The old Roundup had mainstreet stores that closed at 5 pm and then opened at 7 pm for craft groups and quilting bees.It was obvious that Roundup was a ranching town and old vintage pickup trucks with horse trailers attached would do a slow cruise down main. Our small hamlet was casual and we liked it that way.Local kids could play running down side streets and main streets without the fear of being run over by a speeding driver. We had a brotherhood and looked out for one another back then....

  • Recycling Wind Turbine Blades: A Farmer's Ingenuity

    Dec 11, 2024

By Tod Bowman Wind turbine blades play a crucial part in clean energy generation, but their disposal poses a growing challenge. Luckily, innovative solutions provide new ways to keep them out of landfills. As the wind industry grows, there is an increasing need for replacement of older wind turbine blades with larger, more efficient ones. With a lifespan of approximately 25 years, the sheer number of blades and other components that will eventually need to be decommissioned will strain current repurposing and recycling capabilities, leading to...

youth CARES In the crowded halls, I walk alone, A shadow drifting, far from home. Laughter echoes, but it feels so far, I wear a smile, but it’s just a scar. Faces pass by, but none seem to see, The weight of a heart that longs to be free. Whispers of friendship, like ghosts in the air, I reach out my hand, but no one is there. At night, I close my eyes, hoping for peace, Dreaming of moments where the pain might cease. Yet silence surrounds me, a heavy gray mist, In a world full of colors, I feel like I’ve missed. I’m lost in a crowd, yet a...
