  • Pastor's Corner

    Dec 18, 2019

ADVENT 3 It is really hard to believe that there is only one more Sunday until Christmas. The time goes so fast. Most people in the western world KNOW that Christmas is about Jesus, yet do they believe? That is the big question we all have to answer for ourselves. God did all that He is going to do up to this point in time. He has a lot more to do in His timing, but when Jesus died on the cross He said “It is finished”. What is ‘IT’? That is the big question we all have to ask ourselves. While we are thinking about this, let’s take a look at a...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Dec 18, 2019

Coming up with a budget is the most basic duty of Congress. It’s something every family, every business and most states are required to do every year. But the past 40 years, Congress has only successfully done its job four times -- the last time was 1996. Instead of doing its job, Congress cuts corners and regularly passes short-term spending bills – called continuing resolutions, or CRs – that just keep government funded at existing levels. The result is that no reforms to government programs, even programs that we know don’t work, are all...

  • Response to Commissioners

    Dec 18, 2019

In 2002 in a TV interview with a proponent for the proposed coal mine development in Musselshell County it was stated “Musselshell County has only one non-reservation Montana County with a lower per capita income”. I-105 was passed by a vote of the state in 1998 which set a cap on the number of mills that could be taxed by counties allowing only the raising of mill levels by the inflation rate in 2002. Any tax hikes above the cap had to be by a vote of the county’s voters. Past Musselshell County Commissioners saw little reason to incre...

The holidays are upon us and busy schedules often send us into a panic when looking for the perfect gift for those on our list. No matter your budget, there are affordable gift options your friends and family will love. Tools are always a welcome gift. Most gardeners are reluctant to invest in that cool new hand trowel, shovel or rake. And that’s what makes them a great gift. • Christmas Time In Kalispell

    Larry and Jane Stanfel|Dec 18, 2019

While talking about the history of her ancestral home, the Petersen Ranch, in Pleasant Valley, west of Kalispell, where Terry Siderius and her husband still live and farm, we looked through old yellowed family photographs from the mid-1920s. This scene of her mom, Betty Petersen, and her uncles, Woodie, Rodney, and Donald touched our hearts. We both knew this photo would become a painting, but it raised many questions. From their snow-covered snow pants and sleds, we knew the children were...

  • A New Cold War Heats up in the Arctic

    Jennifer Harper|Dec 18, 2019

The old Cold War has not completely disappeared. It’s gotten colder — frozen, in fact. Russia is mighty active in the Arctic, home to untapped mineral, natural gas and oil deposits plus newly expanded shipping lanes. Indeed, Russia has recently resumed fighter patrols over the North Pole, bulked up northern air bases and tested the fearsome Kinzhal Dagger hypersonic missile in the region. Also on their to-do list: perfecting a fleet of ice-hardened shipping vessels and burly ice breakers — including the Arktika, a nuclear-powered vessel which...

  • SPORTS

    Rick Griffith|Dec 18, 2019

The Panthers hosted the Baker Spartans on Thursday night for their first home game of the year. Unfortunately, the game started much the same as their game against Winnett. The Panthers struggled to make shots early but did a better job of moving the basketball, showing some patience, and getting quality shots. Baker had 4 different players score for them in the opening quarter and they had a 13-7 lead at the end of the first period. The defense was solid all night long which gave our offense an opportunity to get going. In the second quarter...

  • WE SUPPORT COOL

    Dec 18, 2019

Do you know where the burger on your plate is from? You may be surprised to learn that beef labeled “product of USA” is not necessarily from the USA. Under federal labeling laws, beef and pork can be labeled a “product of USA” even if it’s only been processed or packaged here. How fair is that? We are central Montana ranchers and consumers, united by the belief that our community and our country deserve better than this. Ranchers deserve a market that reflects the integrity with which we raise our cattle. Consumers deserve the right to know w...
