    Applications Close August 15th, 2023 In light of recent storms, the Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) is reminding producers that applications for State Hail Insurance Policy are available through MDA’s State Hail Insurance Program. Producers can insure crops against hail damage at the maximum coverage rate of $75 per acre for dryland and $114 per acre for irrigated land. Musselshell County Ambulance was awarded $34,073. for a Medical grade oxygen compressor and a OXY-1M single position fill station. This is necessary due to regulatory changes. Mike’s Service is no longer allowed to stock medical oxygen and cylinders would have to be brought from Billings. The need to have oxygen readily available is a necessity for the ambulances.     Registration is now open for an in-person hunter education course in Roundup. Orientation for the course will take place Monday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Classroom instruction will be May 8 – 12, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The mandatory field day will be Saturday, May 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All events will take place at the Roundup Sportsmen's Association.     Officer Manning, The K9 handler has had new dog Aki since February of 2022. The new dog was purchased for Musselshell County Sheriffs Department due to the law change that legalized marijuana. The previous dog, Rico was trained to detect marijuana, and therefore was not able to continue to be used by the county as a drug dog. The certificates are given by members of the Sheriff's Department when youth are seen with good behaviors such as wearing a bike helmet to ride, using the crosswalk, driving responsibly, etc. Last years citations were entered into a prize drawing for a picnic basket full of gifts.
