    Lura Pitman|Nov 16, 2022

Every year our local Veterans do the Flag Raising Ceremony at the Grade School. It is always a somber moment when the guns are fired, and taps are played. It always brings tears to my eyes, and this year was no exception as I stood with over three hundred well behaved and perfectly quiet grade-schoolers and adults in two degree weather. Quilts of Valor is a group that was started in 2003 to bring comfort and healing to Veterans through the gift of a homemade quilt. The founder, Catherine Roberts' began the group because of a dream. "The dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. I could see his war demons clustered around, dragging him down into an emotional gutter. Then, as if viewing a movie, I saw...
