Thursday was the beginning of 4-B District Tournament action for the Panthers. Tournament time tends to bring out much anxiety as it is win or go home. The Panthers embrace the challenge as they put what they have learned from their 18 practice exams, the regular season, to good use. This year’s squad has spent most of the season recovering from injury which has given many players an opportunity to grow which was very evident on opening night. The game started with the usual nerves for both teams but didn’t last long. Joliet jumped out to an...

W-GR Rams Enzo Corean (20) and Layton Geary (22) move the ball upcourt Friday in the final minute of their loser-out game with Geraldine-Highwood at the 8C tournament at Great Falls High School. The Rams won 63-37. They had lost their first game to Roy-Winifred 47-76 on Thursday. On Saturday morning after trailing much of the game W-GR got back within two points of Centerville, but they couldn't keep the momentum going, losing 52-57....

Last Thursday was senior night for the Roundup Panthers. It was our time to say thank you to the seniors for four years of hard work and to their parents for supporting them in every step of the way. It is always a difficult night as emotions are high and anxiety is amped up for their last performance in their home gym. A quick start in a game is always good to settle the nerves. Unfortunately, the Panthers did the exact opposite as they struggled to make baskets and ran into some early foul...

  • WGR vs Jordan- Small Town Big Dream

    Feb 19, 2020

By Samantha Elliott Friday night brought a bright light to the Winnett Gym. After many seniors were recognized, a slight sadness covered the small-town crowd. It hit a lot of people that this would be the seniors last home game of their high school careers. The Winnett school was given the MHSA Academic award for excellence on and off the fields and courts of the high school scene. All four of the senior girls from Winnett graced us with what was the last time we would hear any of them sing the...

The Panthers traveled to Worden on Thursday to challenge the #2 ranked Huntley Project Red Devils. The Panther effort on Thursday was nothing less than stellar. The Red Devils present a number of problems for the Panthers but their size has to be the number one factor and it proved to be that way Thursday. The Panthers battled all night inside and out. The Panthers had a game plan and it was nice to see the mental focus of the players. The Panthers had 8 different players score in the evening...

The Panthers hosted the Winnett Rams in a non-conference game on Tuesday. It was a hard fought and well-played game by both teams. Both teams struggled to make shots in the first quarter but the Panthers got the ball inside and Dylan, Colton, and Ryder got some key buckets around the rim to get the Panthers going. The second quarter was quite a contrast to the first quarter as both teams warmed up and started to make shots. The Panthers had four different players score in the quarter as MaKale,...

The Panthers traveled to Forsyth last Thursday to challenge the Dogies in a non-conference game. Forsyth presents the same challenge we have faced most of the year and that is they had tremendous size. The one advantage the Panthers had was their depth and bench play. Both teams started the game slow offensively as the outside jumpers wouldn’t fall. The Panthers started in a man defense with an emphasis on keeping their big guards in front of them. The defense didn’t want their guards to get going downhill so to speak as they are difficult to...

The Columbus Cougars came to town on Friday to challenge the Panthers in a conference game. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball consistently in the first half. The Panthers had the better of it early as some of our shots fell. The Panthers did a great job of getting the ball inside and got some great looks from kick outs by Dylan and Colton but the three ball wasn’t falling in the first half. The defense did a great job of keeping the Cougars off balance. AJ, Michael, Kaide, and MaKale applied lots of pressure on their guards creating t...

Christmas Break is a great time for our players to spend time with their families and recharge their batteries. For the Panthers it also meant the beginning of a difficult part of their schedule. First up was the Huntley Project Red Devils. Huntley boasts a lineup with 3 players 6'5" or bigger. The Panthers spent Christmas break game planning for Huntley's size and pressure. The Red Devils attack teams with a number of presses. The Panthers were prepared for the pressure but had to get over...

The Panthers hosted the Shepherd Mustangs for their first conference game of the year. It was not a great game to watch for the spectators as the offense for either team wasn’t really good but on the other hand the game was close throughout and no one should have been bored. Shepherd jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter. Their leading scorer hit 5 quick points but then Brigem and Michael began to put the clamps on him. The Panthers shifted to a 2-3 zone that seemed to take the wind out of the Mustangs sails. At one time point in t...

The Panthers hosted the Baker Spartans on Thursday night for their first home game of the year. Unfortunately, the game started much the same as their game against Winnett. The Panthers struggled to make shots early but did a better job of moving the basketball, showing some patience, and getting quality shots. Baker had 4 different players score for them in the opening quarter and they had a 13-7 lead at the end of the first period. The defense was solid all night long which gave our offense an opportunity to get going. In the second quarter...
