Roundup, Montana - The NRA Foundation has awarded the Musselshell Valley Sharp Shooters 4-H Club a grant totaling $10,075.57 for shooting sports equipment and supplies. "We are very excited about the 4-H Shooting Sports Program in Musselshell and Golden Valley Counties and the potential for growth that this grant provides" said Candie Stamp, 4-H Shooting Sports Coach, "we are pleased that the NRA is making this generous investment in our community."
The 4-H Shooting Sports Program in Musselshell and Golden Valley Counties offers safe, fun and challenging 4-H activities in Air Pistol, Air Rifle, Archery, BB Gun, Shotgun, Small Bore Pistol and Small Bore Rifle. Safe and responsible use of archery equipment and firearms is the core of all 4-H Shooting Sports programs. Through the 4-H Shooting Sports program 4-H Members can improve their marksmanship skills, have the opportunity to compete, learn self-discipline and personal responsibility, and gain life-skills that will go with them into adulthood.
The 4-H Shooting Sports program has seen significant growth in the past few years. In 2015 the number of youth participating in shooting sports in Musselshell and Golden Valley Counties was 27; in 2019 the number is up to 39. Several of the 4-H Members participate in multiple disciplines. Additionally, the number of certified shooting sports coaches has increased. Through the NRA Foundation grant and the equipment and supplies it has provided, the 4-H Shooting Sports program will be able to accommodate an increasing number of youth who are interested in shooting sports.
Junior member Mallory Hood said “What I like about 4-H Shooting Sports is how willing the coaches are to help. I learned how to shoot a bow and I love to shoot. I also enjoy spending time with my friends.”
Junior member Lukus Olson indicated he feels receiving this grant will improve the program and therefore kids will be learning more.
Parent Francine Jansen said “I enjoy how knowledgeable the leaders are and encouraging to the participants. My son speaks of fundamentals he has learned and became confident in his shooting. This grant will help create excitement for the program.”
