SchoolsLocal examples of beautiful stained glass windows are featured throughout the Moss Mansion in Billings, Montana this summer. The exhibit includes stunning images by photographer Allison Kazmierski, owner of Font & Figure, from four local churches. Samples of stained glass, as well as a ‘work in progress’ display by Susan (Kennedy) Sommerfeld of locally owned Kennedy’s Stained Glass, are also found on temporary display throughout the historic house museum.
Allison, Susan, and Jennette Rasch, curator at the Moss Mansion, enjoyed an exciting collaboration for this important project. With the help of parishioners and church staff, Allison was able to capture and preserve important information and the true beauty of these stained glass windows to be shared in a new setting. Susan has worked on windows at the Moss and understands the importance of quality restoration and preservation work. “Allison and Susan were chosen specifically for this project,” Jennette said. “The discoveries we made Stories in Stained Glass about stained glass are reflected with elegance, giving the entire exhibit a powerful impact.”
Among the items on display are the examples of fine stained glass originally installed in the Moss home. Photographers like Allison love the unique light and backdrops these lovely windows lend to any subject photographed inside the stunning mansion. Susan and Jennette shared insight to the unwitting advances in technology afforded by the development of glass manufacturing techniques and tools over the centuries, and their stories shed light on the importance of preserving these works of art.
The Moss Mansion Museum is open to the public for tours and special events year around and is operated by the Billings Preservation Society, a registered 501.3.c company. Stories in Stained Glass will be on exhibit until October 1st.
