Curtis Egge has completed a research project for the Musselshell Valley Historical Museum on The Battle of Charlie Company, 1st of the 5th, U.S. Army Cavalry on the Cambodian Border, 21 November, 1966 that resulted in the deaths for two of Roundup’s finest, Gary D. Byford and Larry D. Naasz. Curtis Egge was a neighbor of Gary Byford and looked up to him as a hero and role model.
Curtis has donated a binder to the museum of his research. Curtis stated in the front of the binder, “The Contents of this 3-ring binder and disc are meant to remember and document the patriotic valor of two of Roundup’s finest, Gary D. Byford and Larry E. Naasz. It is also meant to remember and document this battle and the patriotic valor of their fellow soldiers, those who survived and those who did not, on that fateful day so many years ago.
This event and this documentation remains a testament and salute to the decades-long gallant soldiering of Charlie Company, the 1/5 Cavalry, U.S. Army, still battling with distinction today. Finally, I offer it in honor of all U.S. Military Veterans, especially those of the Viet Nam War.”
All of the written material and some of the pictures are copyrighted and must not be used without permission of the copyright owners/authors. The CD is to be used for school projects or family.
Gary D. Byford and Larry D. Naasz are the only two Musselshell County residents who gave their lives during the Viet Nam War.
This binder will be available for viewing at the Musselshell Valley Historical Museum.
The museum will be closing for the season on Sunday, September 29, 2019. We are open seven days a week from 1:00 – 5:00 until then.
