Chuck Fowler, Nurse Practitioner, Roundup Memorial Hospital

Chuck is the newest member of Roundup Memorial Healthcare staff. He moved here with his family from his home state of Ohio. He and his wife homeschool their three children who are 6, 4, and 2 years old. He has always wanted to live in Montana. At RMH Chuck does about everything, the clinic, primary care patients, emergency room, hospice, and nursing home. He is trained in family medicine, and has a background in critical care and emergency room. Chuck is officially a Nurse Practitioner. Some of the biggest challenges at RMH are that we do not have some of the resources that a larger hospital would have. The positive, he feels, is that we are close to larger facilities. Chuck is still “getting his feet wet” at RMC and will have a better idea over time of his long term goals.

I boldly asked Chuck his thoughts on Obama Care, & Universal Healthcare, often a touchy subject. Chuck explained to me that these plans are not effective in bringing prices to the consumer down. He feels there are a couple of things that could change healthcare prices and insurance costs. One, is eliminating the interstate ban on health insurance to make it buyable across state lines, therefore making it more competitive. The other is Torte reform, the medical legal side, ending the law suits, because most hospitals settle out of court as it is cheaper than going through all the process, even if all the evidence is toward the medical facility.

Chuck would like to let the public know that he has the training to see all patients and all populations. He will be the only OB provider after October 10th. Please welcome Chuck and his family to our community, and we wish him all the best in his new position.
