A public meeting for residents of Musselshell County was held Thursday, December 5th at the Commons. About 200 citizens attended the discussion of past and current county finances. All 3 county commissioners were in attendance with some past commissioners taking the floor to explain their methods of evaluating the setting of taxes. The county is awaiting the completion of the current audit of the 2014 tax year which will help set the basis of figuring out county balances for the following years of 2015 thru 2018. The audit for those years will be completed by the accounting firm of Denning, Downey & Associates, P.C., Mr. Robert Denning was in attendance and answered a couple of questions. Until the audit of 2014 is completed the counties financial bottom line will remain uncertain.
Musselshell County finances have been a topic of investigation by the State of Montana for some period of time and are coming to a head during this fiscal year. Information is limited due to the nature of the investigation which may include looking back to the tax year of 2010. Further public meetings may be
scheduled in the future.
