One of Roundups oldest businesses is A&A Tires. The A&A stands for Anderson and Anderson from 1964 to present, but pre 1964 the business was called A&G for Anderson and Giesler. The Harold Anderson family carry the business through the 21st Century.
Currently Harold's son Dennis is the Owner and Operator of the longtime business. Dennis is the only son, and middle child of Harold's five children. His sisters Sheila and Deanna are local educators in our community at the Grade School, and the Andersons are a tight-knit family in Roundup. In the beginning A&A was a John Deere Implement dealership, till 1984, when things got tough in the dealership business they transitioned to tires and automotive from 1984 on.
A&A provides service for Tires and light mechanics, and services tractor tires in the field. Business ebbs and flows for A&A throughout a good or bad economy, and some rules and regulation change through time, but generally things stay the same. The Industry, however, has changed a lot in last 10 years, as tire sizes have multiplied, and autos have become more computerized. The biggest challenge is keeping up in the computer age. Tires used to come in about three sizes for any given vehicle, but now there are so many different sizes, low profile, speed rated, and types to try to stock, that it is hard to keep up. A&A has a solution to this problem though, because they can order any kind or size of tire and have it here in Roundup within a day or two. They have tire supply trucks that can deliver up to three times a week. Dennis has had success in his business because of his diligence and that of his crew, to show up, do their job, and work hard.
A&A employs nine people including Dennis, his mother Sharon, and his father, who still comes in and sharpens chain saws. Bea and Sharon work in the office, and Dan, Keith, John, Tracy, and Michael work in the shop with Dennis. The A&A family and employees have all had a special interest in our local Fire Department. Dennis was a volunteer firefighter for 26 years. A&A has always had 3 guys on the fire department for the last 45-50 years. Dennis' father retired with 23 years on the fire department. Employees Keith has served 13 years, and Tracy has served 21 years, and Danny has served 9 years on the fire department. Everyone here shows up every time the fire whistle goes off. Dennis always makes sure that his crew can take off for any fire call.
Having purchased tires from A&A myself, I have first hand experience with the excellent service and friendly atmosphere at A&A. Our small-town businesses are the foundation of our community, and we are glad that those who take care of our tires and cars might also be the one helping fight a fire in the neighborhood. It is just more of the tapestry that makes up a caring community that we call home.
