Checking In With RSVP

It's been a while since checking in with Shelley at RSVP, so I stopped in to see what is new. The Little Store had changed dramatically since my last visit. It was quite lovely, and Shelley mentioned that Joann does the store and changes things each Tuesday. Purchases from the store help raise money for RSVP.

Shelly was excited to tell me of the newest fundraising event coming up. RSVP will be creating with the help of others, a generational cookbook, with favorite family recipes from all around the area. She wants anyone and everyone to send their favorite family recipe with a photo of grandma included with the recipe. These can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped by, or you can call 323-1403 to find out more about the project. She would like to have recipes from families in Musselshell, Fergus, Golden Valley, Petroleum, and Judith basin. RSVP is hoping to have it done in time for the Chokecherry Festival in the fall.

Other things happening through the RSVP program are: The Trade Show on April 18th, tables are $25, and there are still a few available for purchase. RSVP does an annual Tax aide program for senior citizens and low income. May volunteer Recognition Dinner for volunteers, a favorite event, will be May 14th at the Senior Center and catered by our remarkable cook, Cheryl Goffena. The theme will be the Wild, Wild West. Volunteers will be recognized for many different things, such as most volunteer hours, the newest volunteer, etc. Drama camp is coming up in July, depending upon getting qualified directors and donated funds, as it is a costly event. The directors are paid, and money is given for scripts, costumes, and snacks. The School Supplies Program, an event started 2 years ago when the Optimist's club did not have enough help to keep doing it. RSVP works hand in hand with Northern Treasures and the Optimist's club to complete this excellent program for our youth. RSVP needs monetary support because their grant funds do not support this event. Shelley stated that RSVP will be starting in May to raise money for that event. Last year a gentleman from Bozeman generously donated $1000, a massive contribution toward the goal. The Coat Drive begins in October, RSVP will be concentrating on youth and children's coats this year. Most of the coats received last year were for adults, and this year we need children's coats.

Shelley wants to remind the public that RSVP is always looking for more volunteers of any age. They are short of volunteers at this time. RSVP is also looking for new board members for the advisory board. They would like to get someone from Melstone, Winnett, or Ryegate, any of the areas that we service, Petroleum, Golden Valley, or Musselshell Counties. "We need new board members with fresh ideas."

The newest member of the RSVP team is Pam Osborn. She is the new volunteer coordinator for Lewistown but works out of the Roundup office. She travels to Lewistown every other week.

As always, RSVP is busy being a pillar to the community. The work that our retired volunteers do is significant for many in need.

A final word from RSVP to the public; "Many of our events are not supported by grant funds, and we rely heavily on the community and their wonderful generosity'.
