MSU-Northern Announces Modified Schedule for Fall 2020

Montana State University-Northern has developed and approved a modified schedule for the fall 2020 semester that will include face-to-face lectures and labs and also ensure that students will not be expected to be on campus after Thanksgiving break. The University remains committed to fulfilling its mission and meeting its standards of excellence while protecting the health and safety of the campus and community. These decisions are made with the understanding that they may change in response to any public health directives.

• Fall semester will run from August 31 to December 8

• Courses will be offered face to face through Tuesday, Nov. 24

• Each 50-minute class will be increased by 5 minutes (to 55-minute periods)

• Lectures and labs will be front loaded to help make sure the most important content is taught early in the semester

• Students will not be returning to the campus after Thanksgiving

• Students will be able to access the last lectures of their courses through alternate distance delivery methods on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1

• Finals will be delivered through alternate distance delivery methods between Dec. 2-8

Northern’s Fall Planning workgroups are developing detailed protocols for social distancing and sanitizing in work spaces and classrooms across the campus. Additionally, the Chancellor has approved summer workshops for faculty focused on developing flexible course models and innovative teaching methods.

“Our goal for this fall is to provide every MSU-Northern student a safe, high-quality learning experience, no matter how the circumstances unfold,” said Chancellor Greg Kegel. “This challenge provides us with an opportunity to model the value of flexibility for our students.”
