Shirley Jean (Bohlman) Farnum passed away Sunday, May 10th, at St. Vincent's Hospital following a stroke at her home that day. She was born in Roundup, Montana, on October 3, 1936. Shirley had two sons, Kip Farnum and Greg Farnum, with Gene Lehfeldt. They married young and were together for just a few years. Shortly thereafter she married Buck Farnum, and they were married until he passed away in 2001.
Shirley was one of the most kind and loving persons to walk this earth. She enjoyed seeing her relatives and talking about all that was happening with them and their kids. Her personality was such that it drew people close to her, and she never said, "no" to anyone. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was especially loved by all of her dogs – everyone which was spoiled beyond belief.
Her childhood was almost idyllic, even though it was post-depression and very difficult. She lived on ranches at Melstone and Musselshell and attended Musselshell High School. She was the youngest of six and was very fond of her older siblings. She was a cheerleader and volleyball player along with being a substitute teacher during her senior year! She worked as a telephone operator during her 20's and 30's and switched to childcare in her later years.
Shirley lived on both coasts as Buck was in the navy, and they seemed to enjoy that life style very much. In the 80's they returned to Montana and settled in Billings to retire. She is survived by her brother, Edwin Bohlman (Jean) two sons, Greg and Kip, her daughter-in-law, Nancy Farnum, and her grandkids, Lauren McKay (Shane) Ashley Komac (Matthew) and Maria Farnum. Shirley also has two great grandkids, Addie and Matthew Komac. She came from a large family and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Rosa Fiene Bohlman, her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Adeline Bohlman, her sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Glen Roberts, her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Alfred Adolph, and her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Corky Walker and her grandson, Thomas Farnum.
A memorial service will be held at the Big Timber Evangelical Church at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 with Pastor Bryan Baker officiating. All of Shirley's family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences at a luncheon honoring Shirley's life immediately after the service at the Metcalf Ranch southeast of Big Timber. As a way of honoring Shirley, please donate to the charity of your choice in her name.
