Where do we, as a community, go from here?

Last week the Musselshell County Republican central committee met to put forth names to replace Adam Carlson as county commissioner. Among the four individuals are Robert Goffena, Sue Olson, Bruce Hoiland, and Mark Turley. The first two are dinosaurs from past commissions. Both Goffena and Olson want to sweep under the rug their mishandling and gross negligence of county finances. Goffena, from my previous dealings with him, has wholly represented himself as dishonorable and as someone that lacks any integrity. Olson ran and served in the past as a Democrat! Is the Republican central committee under the dictatorship of Maryrose Beasley seriously putting forth a Democrat?

Beasley has been in control of the central committee for four years. She still is a political dunce without any idea of what it means to believe in any political philosophy. She has been running the central committee as her private club with officers chosen and vetted by her. So, when events are incomprehensible, look to Beasley for your reasons. Miraculously last week, the Republican party filed their bylaws with Musselshell County, presumedly at the prompting of county attorney Peterson. Going through this eleven-page creation of J. K. Kuzara with Beasley's direction, they try to pass this document as representative of other Republican central committees. The first overreach that this paper aims its tentacles at is "No persons will be eligible to hold the position of precinct member if they have been found guilty of illegal campaign activities by the state commission of political practices." This reference to the commissioner of political practices is mentioned seven times in this paper. If Beasley or Kuzara knew anything about the legislature's makeup and the people that serve, they might find out with minimum investigation that most legislators have had complaints filed against them, including convictions. They continue to serve in the legislature and are not thrown out by the local central committees. But ignorance must be bliss to the uninformed! The office, Commissioner of Political Practices, was created many years back and has been in the control of the Democrats for at least the last 16 years! The keyword is in the title 'Commissioner'; the Governor appoints the individual! Hopefully, if Greg Gianforte is elected, the legislature will abolish the position! It would be interesting to check on the filings to the COPP from the local party whether they could be in trouble with the flim-flam way they have handled their finances? Any simple-minded individual can file a complaint, ask Kuzara. If there are grounds for a charge, does that mean the party would have to dissolve itself? Interesting question.

The other noteworthy concoction in this so-called document is the use of the phrase ‘Committee of the Whole’ members. Some relevant background, Republican central committees are supposed to be set-up as the legislature or any constitutional republic. The voters elect representatives who vote on legislation that the public wants or not; then, if the electorate is satisfied, they reelect that individual to another term! The same is supposed to be valid for a central committee. The voters of a given precinct elect a candidate to represent Republican ideals if the voters are happy with the direction of the party that individual should be reelected. This bizarre concept of a 'committee of the whole' is a socialist construct from Beasley's vapid brain. In essence, if the mob wants something at a meeting of the party, then "once decided by the committee of the whole, Precinct committee members may comply with the results and officially ratify or adopt those decisions."

Finally, there is nowhere in the document stating the term limits of the officers. If you were to check terms limits in most any county Yellowstone, Gallatin, Lake, Cascade, etc. you would find precise terms listed. Still, for Musselshell County, Beasley and her reigning groupies are not thinking about giving up any power. As Lord Acton stated, "Everybody likes to get as much power as circumstances allow, and nobody will vote for a self-denying ordinance."
