The Rocky Mountain College men’s and women’s golf teams followed up their strong starts in the Montana Tech Invitational with solid outings in the Carroll College Invitational at the Bill Roberts Golf Course.
The women’s team once again placed first with four Battlin’ Bears competing finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Claire Wright ran away with the individual title shooting an even-par 72. Kaelyn Volk, who won last week’s tournament in Butte, finished second with an eight over par 80. Volk and Wright have established themselves as two of the top competitors in the Frontier Conference. The duo has finished in the top two of both tournaments they have competed in this season. Rocky also saw top ten finishes from Amanda Conner who tied for fifth with an 87 and sophomore Morgan Sword who finished just one stroke behind Conner with an 88.
The men’s team also saw some great performances with six Battlin’ Bears shooting even par or under. Daniel Sigurjosson, Mitchell Thiessen, and Nolan Buzminski all shot two-under-par rounds of 70, which tied them for second place. Close behind was freshman Merlin Lipin who shot a one-under-par 71. Junior Haydyn Driver’s 72 strokes were good for even par landing him in eighth place. The Battlin’ Bears completed the 18 hole round tied with Montana Tech for first place. The teams settled the score in a one hole playoff which was eventually won by Tech.
The Rocky golf teams will be back in action this Sunday, September 27, as they travel to Anaconda, Mont., for the Old Works Invitational, hosted by Montana Tech.
