One on One with Musselshell County Commissioner Nicole Borner

Part III

Question: What is your plan for Musselshell County?

My plan is a strong resilient future for Musselshell County. We are a historic boom-bust coal and agricultural community. I work to make sure we are expanding our tax base, so I focus on one of the fundamentals of economic development; beautification and livability. The basis of economic development is to attract entrepreneurs who want to build their business here, parents who want to raise their children in a safe community and people who want to retire and enjoy the small town life. Again, expanding the tax base. A diversity of businesses and people will strengthen our community.

I approach my job and leadership position in the community, by being prepared and educated. The more in order our house is at the local level the better we will fare the inevitable changes. That is why I actively educate myself, why I brought the county’s finances into compliance, and lowered the budget by 57 mills- to be prepared for the future. We are going to have an economic mess after the dust settles from this pandemic.

We are not going to die as a community, we will just change. The question is what do we want that change to look like. We need leaders like me that are willing to have a vision, educate themselves on the issues, actively work towards solutions and actively advocate for public involvement. Make no mistake, I don’t care what experience you think you have in life, this job is on the job training and I’ve got six years of experience in this job.
