Fast forward to Aug. 12-15, 2021 for the 36th Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering…..2020 got bumped off the calendar by Covid 19 restrictions!
Undaunted however, participants and planners are optimistically preparing for this summer’s “Keepin’ It Cowboy” 4-day celebration in Lewistown, MT.
Actually, the 35th Gathering, was moved lock-stock-and-barrel to 2021 without a hitch. Red Steagall, Poet Laureate of Texas and ultimate cowboy poet of the genre will star Saturday night, Aug. 14, 2021 at the Fergus Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Opening the show will be humorist cowchix and poetress, Sareena Murnane of Choteau and The Carr Family Cowboy Band from Whitman, Nebraska. Red is bringing two back-up singers to help him share his incomparable cowboy poetry, songs and stories at the Grand Stage Show, Saturday night at the Fergus Center for the Performing Arts.
Fergus High School will be Day Headquarters for the Gathering on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14. Over 50 hours of entertainment is scheduled, performed by 70+ cowboy poets and western musicians. The Judith Mountain Players will perform a play, Western vendors and food vendors will keep attendees happy, and a red-hot raffle of vintage Western trappings and treasures will also be at Day Headquarters.
Other events include a Welcome Dinner & Talent Showcase Thursday evening, a Jam ‘n Dance Friday night, (both at the Elks/Pine Meadows) the Charlie Russell Chew Choo dinner train on Friday and Cowboy Church on Sunday morning at Celebration Community Fellowship Church.
