The City of Roundup recently completed an inventory of all of the trees located in public places and on the boulevards throughout the city. As a result of that inventory, Roundup has been chosen as one of seven cities in Montana to receive a Green Ash Removal grant. The State of Montana is attempting to prepare for the looming threat of the Emerald Ash Borer, which when, not if, it arrives in Montana will wipe out the Green Ash population. Seventy percent of Roundup’s trees are of the Green Ash species. For purposes of the grant, a preliminary selection of twenty-three Green Ash trees has been made from the inventory for immediate removal based upon their condition or as a public safety issue and of critical importance. More trees may be selected dependent upon the amount of the grant award. A certified arborist will complete the removals by or before March 1, 2021. The Tree Board will begin flagging the trees for removal as soon as possible. In conjunction with the removals, replacement trees will be planted where appropriate beginning in the spring. Letters are being sent to affected homeowners. If you do not receive a letter, none of your trees have been selected for removal at this time.
