The Roundup Panthers hosted the Huntley Project Red Devils Thursday evening in a 4B district game. The Panthers got off to a very solid start as Michael, Jace, and Kaide provided balanced scoring in the first quarter. The defense was very solid as Kylen did a nice job inside to keep the Red Devils at bay. The Panthers tried to keep the senior laden Red Devils off balance with some man and zone defense. The defense was effective and created some missed shots but the Panthers missed some blocking out assignments and the athletic trees of Huntley rebounded their misses and scored. The last 33 seconds of the first quarter Huntley scored 5 points to open a lead they would never relinquish at 15-10. The Panthers got some very solid bench play throughout the game as Jordon, Braeden and Elijah supplied solid minutes of relief. The major issue all night long was the Panthers inability to consistently make shots and keep offensive pressure on the Red Devils. A great example was early in the third quarter. AJ hit a couple of shots and then the Panthers went three minutes without a score. The Panthers worked hard but weren't able to keep up offensively with the Red Devils as they lost 73-32.
Scoring was as follows: Kaide Griffith 8, Kylen Wolff 6, Jace Lemmel 6, AJ Gray 5, Michael McHenry 4, Braedan Bilden 2, and Damarion Brewer 1.
The Panthers traveled to Red Lodge Saturday to take on the Rams in another 4B district game. The young Panthers battled all night as they gave the Rams all they could handle during the evening. Both teams started slowly on the offensive end but as the quarter settled in the Rams had five different players score to take a 12-6 lead. The Panthers did a nice job of getting shots but they just wouldn't fall. Pregame the talk was about attacking the basket and getting to the foul line which the Panthers did a much better job of but they didn't take advantage of the free throws. In the second quarter after a slow start the Panthers put together a little run that closed the deficit to 21-16 at the half. The second half was horrendous for the Panthers from the field as only two players scored field goals in the second half. Jace scored 11 of his game high 16 in the second half but didn't get enough help from his teammates. The Panthers missed 11 free throws in the second half to compound their frustrations on the offensive end. To their credit they never gave up and put forth a great defensive effort but it wasn't enough as the Rams prevailed 47-34.
Scoring was as follows: Jace Lemmel 16, Kaide Griffith 8, Michael McHenry 4, Kylen Wolff 4, and Elijah Fish 2.
