National Service Recognition Day and Local Community Service Volunteers Appreciation Day

Whereas, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central to how we meet our challenges; and

Whereas, Elected Mayors and County Commissioners across the nation are increasingly turning to national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to meet city needs; and

Whereas, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps along with groups such as the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross help to address some of the most pressing challenges facing our cities and nation, from education students for jobs of the 21st century and supporting veterans and military families to preserving the environment and helping communities recover from natural disasters; and

Whereas, national service participants serve in more than 70,000 locations across the country, bolstering civic, neighborhood, and faith-based organizations; and

Whereas, the Corporation for National and Community Service shares a priority with local elected may and commissioners nationwide to engage citizens, improve lives, and strenghten communities; are joining together across the country to support our Local Community Volunteers on the Appreciation Day as well as the National Service Recognition Day on April 6, 2021 and

Whereas, we would like to personally say thank you to all of the services and volunteers that serve in our local community; We want to say thank you to the volunteers of the Roundup Chamber of Commerce, Groups like the Knights of Columbus, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Roundup Community Partners. We want to thank the Backpack program and the Roundup Sewing Grandmas who have provided masks during the pandemic. We thank the Commemorative Garden Committee, The RIDE Committee, The BUD Committee or (Tree Board,) Musselshell County Recovery Team, The Lion’s Club, Roundup Youth Center, Senior Corps programs such as the Meals On Wheels and all of the many services of the Roundup Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) I recognize those who serve at the Musselshell County Museum, The Public Library’s summer reading program, those who serve at our local Food Bank and the Golden Thimble, those who serve with the Summer Lunch program at the Youth Center, and the Roundup Ministerial Association; I want to say thank you to the Musselshell Unity Drive one of our local fund raisers and the Roundup Restoration Committee. Other charity foundations such as the Musselshell Community Foundation and the Signal Community Foundation also serve our community by funding projects that benefit our community. We want to say thank you to the VFW and the Teddy Abbott Blue Committee for their contribution to our community. We want to thank our local Volunteer Fire Departments, The EMT’s, Disaster Emergency Services providers, Local Law Enforcement and Reserve Deputies for their service. The vision that all of you have in your specific field of service is what makes our community vibrant, healthy, strong and alive as we move forward into our future.

Therefore, Be It Resolved That I, Sandra Jones Mayor of the City of Roundup, hereby proclaims April 6, 2021 as National Service Recognition Day, and encourage the residents in our community to recognize the positive impact these services have had in our city and outlying communities and to thank those who serve or volunteer by finding ways to give back to their communities.
