Roundup's New Radar Signs

Driving into Roundup from all directions there are now three RADAR speed limit signs. The signs are located in the 1000 block of Main Street for southbound traffic, the southeast corner of the city park along Eighth Avenue East for westbound traffic, and along US 12 coming into Roundup for northbound traffic.

The new signs will help people realize they need to slow down driving through town. With our Main Street also being the highway, sometimes people continue through town at higher speeds than the limit. With the new signs they will not have an excuse for speeding through our streets. Without having stop lights in Roundup, a slower speed through town is important to give pedestrians and cross traffic

opportunity to cross the street.

Sheriff Lesnik has wanted RADAR signs for a long time. Because of COVID, the government issued reimbursement for essential workers in a form called the CARES ACT. Our city was allocated money from this act. Mayor Jones wanted some of this money to come back to our local law enforcement. The new radar signs will directly help the public be more mindful and hopefully keep the speeders to a minimum.

These solar RADAR signs took a group effort to get approved, the following is a thank you from our Sheriff, Shawn Lesnik.

"There are many people to thank for making this idea become a reality. I would like to thank Mayor Jones, the Roundup City Council, and the Musselshell County Commissioners for agreeing to the purchase of the signs with funds received from the COVID reimbursement. I would like to thank the Montana Department of Transportation for working with me on the encroachment permitting process and finding appropriate locations for the placement of the signs. I would also like to send out a special thanks to Roundup Public Works Director Lon Sibley and the great City Maintenance crew, without their hard work this project would still be in the box. Thank you so much everyone, I believe the signs will help slow down traffic passing through Roundup and make the streets safer for the residents of Roundup."
