Letters to the Editor

We have become a nation of sloths. We would rather avoid work and accept a handout from the government rather than earn a honest day's wage. Our government is spending us into a debt abyss from which we will never recover. The government is paying people to stay home because Uncle Sam is giving more money than what an employer can afford to pay them. There was a time when people were embarrassed to be on the dole, not any more. Hey, that's what the government is for --- to give us money when we need it.

We have allowed our government to become more and more socialistic, just like Europe, and look at the mess that Europe has been in for years. Can we not learn from their mistakes?

The money that the government has given out these last few months, as if it were penny candy, is being used by many people for a year long vacation. I know there are people who desperately need financial help, but you know what? A lot of those people have no one but themselves to blame for the position in which they now find themselves. When you aren't making much, it's hard to put away some money out of your pay check. What ever happened to savings accounts? We no longer save and plan for the future because we know that good old Uncle Sam will be there to bail us out. We no longer save to pay for children's education; we expect Uncle Sam to give us another hand out, not only that, but he might decide that all of the money he loaned to students in the past should be forgotten about. Wouldn't that be a nice thing to happen!

We have become a recreation nation. We live for the week-end when we can pursue all of the fun things in life. Who really wants to hold a job anymore? Isn't there anyone who sees the reward of hard work? You walk into an office and what do you see? You see no one at their desk. They are all standing, talking, and laughing around the water fountain about their plans for the week-end, or they are at their desk drinking their morning coffee and reading the daily paper with their legs propped up on the desk.

There has has been a lot of talk recently about redistribution of wealth in this country. I've wondered how on earth that could come about. Would the government up our taxes high enough so that those who earned the money wouldn't have as much money to spend and that money could be handed out to the less well off. What might happen when the government can't get any more money out of the wealthy? They might stop going to work and saving money that they could be taxed on.

I never thought I would live long enough to see the redistribution of wealth, but that is exactly what has been happening in our country these last few months. The Treasury of the United States is cranking out money and redistributing it as quickly as it can. Have you received your stimulus check? Better let the government know if you haven't, as they might run out of money before they get to you!

Think people think about what is happening to our beloved country!
