Leona Marie (Laughery) Bascom AKA 'Tootie'

Tootie, age 73, of Roundup, MT, was reunited with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Billings, MT, due to complications of the Coronavirus.

Leona was born May 5, 1948 to LeRoy Irvin and Helen Marie Laughery in Billings, MT. She attended elementary school in Judith Jap, MT, and graduated high school in Melstone, MT. After high school, she attended college at Montana Status University Billings for business and accounting.

She met the love of her life while working at a western store in Billings, MT, when a Canadian cowboy, Garth Stanley Bascom, strolled in to buy a hat. After sweeping her off her feet, they were married January 29, 1970 in Billings. He then promptly moved her to Canada to live on the Bascom Ranch outside of East End, Saskatchewan, Canada, where they started their little family amongst the Bascom family and lifelong friends. To this union, 2 children were born, Cody Leigh and Winston Andrew. In the fall of 1978, Garth and Leona moved to the US, where they settled down to finish raising their family in Lewistown, MT. From Lewistown, they moved around depending on the different cowboying jobs Garth held. In early 2000, they settled on the Horse Ranch in Roy, MT, where they spent years until they moved back to Roundup, MT to attempt their hand at retirement.

Leona was the heart of the home, always filling the house with her love for cooking, laughter, and her sassy personality. She loved baking, especially for the holidays, where she lovingly taught her grandchildren her baking and cooking secrets.

She also loved quilting where she made a quilt for each family member. Her leisure time passion was watching her birds, and fishing whenever the moment arose. Leona loved her grandchildren, always baking them her famous cinnamon rolls and sending them off to the world with different food she had canned. It was her way of ensuring her family was well fed and always could have a taste of home with them.

Leona is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Helen; her sister, Louis and two brothers, Roger and Lloyd. Leona is survived by her children, Cody (Stoney) of Roundup, MT and Winston (Rickie) of Huntsville, UT; her grandchildren Cedessa Berg of Roundup, MT, Tyrel (Laura) Berg of Covington, KY, Brieann (Connor) Jones of Emmett, ID, Rachaell Suhr of Roundup, MT, Deva (Ethan) Padilla of SLC, UT, Ty Bascom of Roundup, MT, Micah (Devan) Lemmon of St. George, UT, and Josie Coomes of Hunstville, UT; and a brother Levi (Julie) of Winston, MT; and her nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on 5/29/2021, at 1:00 pm, at the LDS Church in Roundup, MT, with a luncheon afterwards.
