The 16th edition of RIDE is just around the corner and country hit maker Joe Nichols brings his energetic show to the Roundup Outdoor City Stage on July 3rd. The show starts at 7 pm but you might want to bring your lawn chairs a little early and keep your eyes on the sky because the Army's Golden Eagle Jump Team will parachute in to the venue. There could be a couple local celebrities jumping as well.
Joe Nichols has been a mainstay of country music for two decades, bridging the gap between country's old-school roots and the contemporary era. He's a 21st century traditionalist-an artist who's both timely and timeless, racking up 6 #1 singles and 10 top 10 hits with a sound that honors his heroes. From his first radio smash, 2002's "The Impossible", to 2021's "Home Run", Nichols has proudly done things his own way, blurring the boundaries between country music's past and present along the way.
It's an approach that has earned Nichols multi-platinum success, three Grammy nominations, a CMA award, an ACM trophy, and-perhaps most importantly-the support of his idols. He still remembers the day he received a letter from Buck Owens, who passed away the same week his message arrived in Nichols' mailbox. The two had previously crossed paths in Bakersfield where Owens complimented Nichols on his classic sound...and gave him some good-natured teasing about the length of his hair.
"He wrote me the day before he died", remembers Nichols, who was still riding high on the success of his gold-selling fourth album, and it's chart-topping single "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off"." It was so nice of him to do that. He said, "I'm really proud of you. I love the way you're keeping it country. And thank you for cutting that daggum hair!"
American Idol's Lauren Mascitti will perform that night on stage. She's really been on a roll the last month. She made her Grand Ole Opry debut, and was invited back for two more nights, all within the last month. Her new song is doing well. It's called "One Life Stand".
RIDE kicks off on July 2nd with the super Eagles tribute group Hotel California. It's nothing but the Eagles and everything to get you singing in your lawn chairs. Crowd pleaser Jason Larson opens.
There will be jumps both nights by the Golden Eagles, and several special guests. On the 2nd Kim Mitchell, a Viet Nam refugee and Air Force veteran, and VFW head Shellye Burrows will be onstage as we honor all medical personnel and first responders. On the 3rd RIDE is pleased to have Lt. Gen. Butch Funk and Gen. Paul Funk on stage as we give a salute to all military veterans.
Get your wristbands at IGA, First Security Bank, The Liquor Store, KLMB Radio, KGHL Radio in Billings, or online at roundupride.com. Wristbands get you into all events. RIDE will have Safety Stations throughout the event grounds. Covid spectator guidelines will be in place. It's coming up and you don't want to miss it. We're ready to throw a Roundup party. See you there!!
