Well folks, it's that time again. Time to be amazed, amused, astounded, and entertained. It is the Annual Ingomar Open Rodeo, Saturday, July 31st, with all the hoopla, great grub, riding, roping, bucking, and informed commentary from the announcer, Deb Greenough, that a rodeo-goer could ever want. Maybe even more!
Whether you are cheering in the stands, tethered to the crow's nest, or riding a top-grade bronc, the Ingomar Open Rodeo is one you will never forget. It has that home spun (town of 12 when everybody's there), genuine, welcoming atmosphere that includes all comers, East, West and everywhere in between. "We have had visitors from New York, Vermont, California, even Scotland," added Ingomar Rodeo Club secretary, Alice Cameron.
For performance value, Ingomar offers top notch bucking stock, provided by Paul Eiker and Shane Vaira and rodeo talent - current and upcoming - participants in Ingomar's Rodeo have gone on to fame and fortune with NFR and PRCA rankings. Ingomar's rodeo announcer, Greenough, was a world champion bare back bronc rider, who looks forward to being at the rodeo each year. "Ingomar is the only town I know that is bordered by cattle guards," quipped Greenough.
And don't forget, there will be great tasting burgers and hot dogs at the cook shack. "You are also likely to hear some pretty outlandish stories at the cook shack," advised Ingomar resident and professional photographer, Hart Broesel. Besides bull riding, bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, ladies breakaway and barrels, and team roping, Ingomar offers some special events. There is the 'Buckaroo Bounce' before the Top 4 Saddle Bronc Ride Off, where kids "of all ages" bounce across the arena towards the stands on balls of various colors in timed heats. "That makes for some pretty hilarious happenings," added Alice, who noted that the rules of that event seem to have a certain elasticity based on the size, age and skills of competitors. When the dust settles, the winner gets $100, and a trophy. And all this will be followed by a dance.
"We can do our Ingomar rodeos only because of tremendous sponsor support and terrific volunteers," added Ingomar Rodeo Club President Donald John Cameron. For a family day filled with great rodeo, food, and special events, come on down to the Ingomar Open Rodeo, Sat., July 31st. Admission is $10 for adults, 6-12 $5, under 6 free.
