My great niece is starting kindergarten this year, and we were informed that there will be no school buses for children who live less than 3 miles each way. She would have to walk a little over a mile each way, cross main street, without so much as a crossing guard! I don't think this is safe, it is difficult for adults to cross that highway, let alone a little child of 5, not to mention the long walk in our winters. I attempted to see superintendent Sealy, and was told by Caroline (his secretary??) "It won't do any good, we are not required to provide transportation, so it's not going to happen." Putting aside her very rude, condescending attitude, I find this unacceptable. The majority of my property taxes go for our schools, and our children deserve better than this. I told her (Caroline) that it wasn't safe for those little kids, she just said quote" It's the parents problem to figure out how to get their children to school." This doesn't seem like public service our tax dollars should be paying for! I have been added to the County Commissioners Agenda for 3:00 on Friday August 27th. I encourage any other parents, grand parents, and citizens who believe our children should have school transportation to attend. Thank you for your attention.
