Have you ever dreamed of writing a book? Have you had that idea in your head for years? Well Kimberly Marriffino, dreamed of it and did it, twice, and is still writing.
Since Kimberly was a teen she had an idea for a story. She built the story for years in her head. She married, had children, and one day as she was telling the cliff notes version story to her daughter, her daughter told her "Mom, you've got to write this story, if nothing else just write it for yourself so I can read it." Sometimes you just have to hear it from a child. She decided to do the first chapter and go from there. She went on, she wrote her story, wrote the sequel, and is now continuing the saga.
Kimberly has always been a bit hesitant to share her writing with anyone. "Turning an idea into dialog, plot and characters, and giving depth to characters is not as easy as people think that it is, so I have a lot of respect for people who write and self-publish." Kimberly comments. Self-publishing is more complicated than publishing through a publisher. In doing so, however, Kimberly is able to list herself as the publisher of her books, and have all the rights to the book, which you cannot do through a publishing company. This quest took time. Kimberly diligently researched to understand the process of self-publishing with all rights reserved to herself. There is also a significant cost that comes with self-publishing. However, it is something to be considered as an investment, because when the price is paid, all proceeds are your own. Kimberly is hoping to help other would-be self-publishers with the steps in the process as she has now done all the research.
Kimberly is also working at an audio version of the first novel. The story is fantasy fiction that is appropriate for juvenile or adult reading. The story has no explicit scenes or relationships to concern parents looking for books to interest their children. The story does have relationships, but they are only a background tapestry within the story. The books, "Return to Kiluemar" (Book 1), and "The Evil Within" (Book 2), feature two main characters who are discovering a mystery about their past and discovering that magic is real and a centuries old prophecy.
You may already know Kimberly from the vender shows where she sells her books, and crafts with her daughter. Kimberly and her husband moved here in 2013, they were both military children who lived many different places. They had known each other when they were young, and reconnected as adults and soon married. They picked Roundup Montana to be their home. They homeschool their two children, a girl and boy. They love the area and community. Roundup is seasoned with such an amazing variety of talented people. It is a great asset to our community to have so many people with varied skills and ideas that can be shared.
If you would like to purchase Kimberly's books "Return to Kiluemar" (Book 1), and "The Evil Within" (Book 2), they can be found on Amazon for purchase, or you can look for Kimberly at the next vendor occasion and likely buy a copy in person and get an autograph at the same time, as I did. Writing is often done for oneself, but when the writing is shared, it can be an inspiration to others. Moods can be shifted, attitudes can be changed, ideas can be seeded. The power of words can never be understated.
