WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

November

Nov 4 -Our menu today was spaghetti with meat sauce, Caesar Salad, French Bread, fresh fruit and cookies. There were twenty-seven sit down meals, and ten take-out meals today. Our elections were held the last Thursday in October. Welcome our new officers. Kim Tarplee is the new president of seniors; Ginger Moore is vice president. Carol Ann stay on as secretary.

Welcome back to Donna Lund. She has missed a couple of meetings due to her health. She is the outgoing president of seniors but will remain as part of the board for seniors.

Butch gave an update on Brad Stahl. They are trying to wean him off the ventilator. His oxygen is still low.

The 50/50 for $9.00 was won by Phyllis A. Congratulations!

Brenda Brady gave a virtual tour of the new Petroleum County Community Center. She pointed out the new space that will become the senior center.

Luann told about the progress on tearing down the old bank building. It was the little building next to the Odd Fellows Lodge that will be moved to its new location soon. As they were taking down the little building, they found a big steel safe buried in what used to be the basement. No one knew what was in it or for what it was used. The construction company dug it out and took it to the old steel safe burial ground. A fun piece of history on a building that hasn’t been used in many years.

Nov 11 - No seniors today.

Nov 18 - Thirty-four in house meals were served and eight take-out meals were delivered. Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans with tomatoes, orange fluff salad, rolls, relishes, and pumpkin pie cake with whipped cream was enjoyed by everyone. It was a delicious meal. We honored and recognized our veterans today since we weren’t able to hold seniors last week. We had the missing soldier table set up. Kim shared what each item on the table represented. We thank each and everyone veteran from each branch of the military for their service in years past, present and yet to come.

The 50/50 for $14 was won by Gary Gershmel. He gave a reading honoring veteran of every war. It was a moving tribute to our men and women in the service.

Area II from Roundup was here. Pamphlets are available for anyone who wants one. The senior newsletters are also here.

There will be no seniors next week as families will celebrate Thanksgiving together.

See you December 2.
