On January 31, 2022 I had a meeting with county commissioners regarding dumping and hoarding in Roundup and county. Many locals beside myself have voiced concerns over dumping, debris and filth littering our community. This does not include local businesses that must have a large inventory or large equipment stored on their business premises. Our local small business owners do a fantastic job keeping their area neat and tidy. They have community pride. The state of Montana does have laws against hoarders and dumping. One law is called The dumping penalty law and many others are on the books to protect communities from those who disregard sanitation and safety for all residents. Our commissioners are aware of these. The problem in Roundup is we have a lifeless County Attorney who will not enforce laws and citations that our local Sheriff Department and Health and Sanitation in Lewistown have issued. At my meeting yesterday with commissioners they offered a possible solution. We could make a department one that will have an enforcer of our laws and help giving fines to those who break dumping and hoarding laws in our county and town. This would take property tax dollars to do. Think about this suggestion and act. Visit your commissioners and offer your valuable insight and opinion on a solution to the problem of those who dump and hoard making life miserable for others and damaging the environment. As far as the County Attorney Ken Petersen, we will not know until March if he will run for office again. If he does, hopefully another candidate will appear on ballot one who will work for Roundup and our community and enforce Montana laws.
