On February 1, 2022, Amy Angel filed for the House District 40 seat, which Representative Barry Usher has held for almost six years. The final day to file as a candidate is 5:00 PM, Monday, March 14. Ms. Angel filed as a Republican. Having lived in Musselshell County for the last six years, full time, I am wondering where she cut her political teeth to claim that she is a Republican? Who in the community is aware of her politics? Who put her up to run for office with all the baggage she carries? Was it past commissioners Robert Goffena, Tom Berry, State Senator Duane Ankney, State Senate candidate Geraldine Custer, one-time State Senator Alan Olson, or current County Attorney Kevin Peterson? I am naturally suspicious of someone who quit her job with county government when county finances came under critical scrutiny, which finances she was responsible for managing! Not only did she abruptly resign her position when the auditors were asking probing questions, but she left with a cloud of potential criminal charges pending possibly. Those are questions for the county attorney.

Several sources have reported that she is intimately involved with an attorney from Helena! Does that mean she will live full-time in Helena if she is elected? Musselshell County has suffered many missteps regarding governmental politics over the last six years. Can we afford someone representing Musselshell County in the state legislature managing a state budget of nine billion dollars when her performance at the county level is highly questionable?

Come on, Musselshell County, there has to be someone out there who feels the call to serve in the legislature and who will bring honor and respect to Musselshell County.

On a more positive note, Ms. Joni Oja has officially filed for the position of Musselshell County Attorney, with another attorney possibly filing before the deadline.
