Mainstreet Murals, The Sellars Sisters

For over two years, the Sellars sisters have had their flower shop on Mainstreet open. The minute you walk in the door of the shop the explosion of art is everywhere to be seen, and a rambunctious cockateel named Rocco, may fly over and land on your head. While offering a space for many local crafters/artists to sell their items, the overwhelming abundance of art is produced by Angie and Jessie.

Artists since youth, the girls grew up on Short Cut Road without television and two artistic parents. It was inevitable that they would spring forth as creative people. Their father drew comics, and their mother, Alice (Wolf) Sellars (Colton), was always writing and painting. She liked to focus her subject matter to horses with her art and photography. To my surprise, she even wrote for the Roundup Record. Alice wrote and published a book called "Riversong" an "Epic Saga of the Evolution of Montana's Upper Missouri". The girls told me that their mother did twenty-five years of research about the history of the Missouri Breaks while writing the book, which she published through Amazon. Alice sadly passed in 2017, and the sisters have her book, and her last painting hanging proudly in the shop.

Angie Sellars has done the murals that you see along Mainstreet, one in the community garden, and the other on the front of the Keg, as well as a mural in the hospital, and the hospital sign. Angie designed the new sign at the Keg as well. Jessie has also done a Mainstreet mural that used to be on the side of the Hardware Store, but was painted over some years ago. The sisters are currently commissioned to paint a large painting for the upcoming bakery, that is to open soon where the Corner Café was.

The sisters are working on a new event for the community called "Magic on the Musselshell". The event is still in the planning phase, but they are hoping it will come to fruition in September. This event is to be a Renaissance fair at the fairgrounds. People will be able to come in Renaissance costume, participate in contests, and enjoy a vendor market. They are looking for people to get involved, and for vendors with homemade goods to fit the theme. They are hoping the event will become an annual affair for Roundup. If you would like to get involved or get more information about this upcoming event stop at the Sellars Place on Main Street and speak to either Angie or Jessie.
