FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS

Flatwillow Homemakers held their February meeting at Babs’ home. There were no birthdays to celebrate in February. Babs’ sister Jeanie Jennie from Lewistown was a visitor and helped Babs with the delicious main dish for our potluck meal. Sandy called the meeting to order, and Bonnie led the pledge. Babs read the thought for the day called “Terrific Person”, and roll call was answered with, “where you received your first kiss and/or a memory you had of Florence Wacker”. Minutes and treasurer’s report were approved as presented. Luann brought a list of very useful household hints to everyone. It is amazing what a little vinegar and baking soda can be used for. Raye Anne won the blind pig. Secret sister gifts were handed out and admired. We welcomed a new member to our club. Kim Tarplee joined us. Welcome Kim, and we are so glad to have you join us. Jean Cook, Luann Knutson, Linda Gershmel, Donna Lund, Raye Anne Lund, Melody Whitcher, Lillian Moore, Bonnie Moore, and Sandy Gonzalez all enjoyed our meeting. The weather was nice and mild, so no one had to worry about bad roads.

The next meeting will be March 8 at the apartments. The entire meal will be potluck luck and each one of us volunteered to bring something, so we have a well-rounded meal of main dish, salads, desserts. Opportunity table will also be held in March.

March has had weather all over the place, but one thing stayed the same is the meeting of Flatwillow Homemakers. We met on March 8 at the apartments. Sandy Gonzalez, our president wasn’t able to be here today, so our vice president Luann Knutson led the meeting. She also led the pledge. Ginger read the thought for the day called “Irish Blessings”. Roll call was answered with an Irish joke. Each place setting had a joke that we all could answer our roll call with, plus Linda and Ginger each had their own Irish jokes to tell. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as presented. There was not a treasurer’s report.

Donna Lund has been the secretary of Flatwillow Homemakers for over 25 years. Due to ongoing health issues, she has resigned from her position. She was very sad to resign but just can’t do the job anymore. Raye Anne will finish out the year as secretary/treasurer and when elections are held next month, we will nominate and elect a new secretary. Donna was not able to be with us today, as she is in the hospital in Billings. We want to thank her for her years of service, organization, and dedication to the club. Everyone signed a card. Homemakers also sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers to her in the hospital.

Melody motioned, and Linda seconded that we would like to send a memorial to Roundup Senior Citizens in memory of Florence Wacker. She has been a long time member of the Flatwillow Homemakers and we will miss her.

Babs won the blind pig. There were also more door prizes that Bonnie brought to club. Melody, Luann, Linda, and Jean were all lucky winners. Thank you, Bonnie. She also brought a recipe for a cake in a mug that you bake in the microwave. There was discussion on where we want to go or want to do for our end of season meeting in May. Several great ideas were shared. We will decide next month where we want to go. Elections will also be held, and we will have secret sister gifts to share.

Jean Cook, Linda Gershmel, Luann Knutson, Babs Lea, Raye Anne Lund, Bonnie Moore, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, Melody Whitcher, and Kim Tarplee were all there. We also had a special guest Sherry Caulfield with us. It is always a pleasure to see Sherry. Hope everyone had a nice St Patrick’s Day, and we look forward to seeing everyone in April.

The next meeting will be April 12 in Huntley. Sandy will be hosting. Instead of going to her house, the meeting will be held in the Yellowstone Valley Electric Co-op building. The Yellowstone County extension agent will be at our meeting and will present gardening tips. We will all get together to car pool to go to Huntley. We send our sympathy to the family and many friends of Florence Wacker. She passed away the first part of February. In addition to being a part of Flatwillow Homemakers, she volunteered with several groups in Roundup and was so active in everything she could be. She had just celebrated her 99th birthday and still went dancing every weekend at the jamborees around this area. She could out dance just about everyone. We will miss her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and generous hugs. She didn’t know a stranger and was always ready with a welcoming smile to everyone. Homemakers just doesn’t seem complete without her. Her funeral was February 26. The reception afterward was held at the Roundup Senior Center. The ladies there prepared a beautiful meal for everyone. When we all finished eating, tables were moved out, and Florence’s favorite band played. There was dancing and listening to great music in honor of Florence.

We also send our sympathy to Russ, Luann Knutson and family, plus the many friends of Mert Knutson. She was a special lady and long time Winnett resident. My first memories of her when I first moved to Winnett 28 yeas ago was seeing her ride her bike all over town to the grocery store, post office, anywhere. She always had a beautiful smile for everyone. She enjoyed telling a good story or good joke to whoever was around. Her funeral will be held April 9 at Cloyd’s in Lewistown. Afterward, we’ll gather at the Winnett Senior Citizens to celebrate Mert and enjoy visiting with family.

Congratulations to our WGR Rams basketball teams. The boys took 3rd place in districts and moved on to Divisionals in Great Falls. They made a great run and took 3rd place there, too. Congratulations! Our Lady Rams continue to improve and played hard this season. There is a lot of talent there and they will continue to get better and better. We all look forward to next year.

Junior High Basketball has begun for both boys and girls. They have crammed a lot of games into the month of March. Good luck to all. The Winnett School Ski Day is set for March 25th. What a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get a chance to ski with your classmates. There are classes for all levels of skiers. Have fun everyone!

The Odd Fellows Hall was moved on Feb 7 to its new location in Winnett. The project vision of the old Hall is turning the first floor into a business/food space and make a couple of apartments on the 2nd floor. All the funding for the move, exterior and interior rehabilitation has been fully funded through donations, local fundraisers, grants, and lots of volunteer hours. They hope to have it all completed by December 2023.

Spring is just around the corner. Calving has begun, spring work is taking place. Continue to pray for moisture, as we need it so desperately. Happy spring Everyone!
