Clay Bedford, Angelica Mozqueda, and Gary VanDyke are running for the upcoming School Board Election. The Roundup Record reached out to speak to the candidates about their desire to fill this position and why they would be the right person for the job. The RRT contacted all three, but we were only successful in reaching Gary VanDyke for comments. The following are the responses of Gary to the questions.
Why are you seeking the upcoming Board Member position?
GV: “I feel that if I am going to illicit any change that it is implicit to be involved. I am hesitant to want the position, I don’t know if I am the best person for it, but I have been very outspoken and vocal castigating this board and administration, and I hope whoever is elected is able to understand the views of the public and the parent’s views.”
What values do you bring to the position if you are elected?
GV: “Honesty, transparency, and commitment to the educational foundations of Roundup Public School. I am hoping for more virtual meetings where parents can log in from home.”
What school board issues are most important to you?
GV: “The blatant lack of transparency. The current board and administration haven’t been very open with the public ranging from potential issues of safety at the school, to the recent superintendent search. It seems like they don’t welcome public comment or take that into consideration, they just do what they have always done, that is one of my concerns. As we have seen throughout the country some of the (Curriculum) needs to be presented to parents and transparent to them so that they can have some say. I’ve talked to many of the board members with some concerns and they either aren’t aware of what is going on, or they don’t care, or they aren’t informed.”
