John Thomas Carlson

John was called home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2022, about a week following his 87th birthday. He died of natural causes at Roundup Memorial Nursing home where he had resided since July of 2021.

He was born in Powell, Wyoming on April 30, 1935 to Burton and Frances M. Carlson, the third of five boys. He had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and taught for fifteen years. He has often said that his favorite place to teach was in Musselshell where he met lifelong friends, Charley and Frances Moore, and married their daughter, Clara. John took other jobs and the couple moved to various places in Montana, Idaho, and Washington. They had two sons, William Stanley (Bill) and John Charles (Charley). After Clara became ill in Washington, they relocated to Roundup to be near Clara's family. Following Clara's death, John married Debbie McTier at Emmanuel Baptist Church in the summer of 2006.

John was a friendly guy, and endeared himself to many. He had been a member of Eastern Star and was an active member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #71 in Roundup. At one time he served that group as Worshipful Master. He was faithful to attend the local A.A. group and was very proud that he had obtained more than 40 years of sobriety. John was also active in his faith journey. He went to Emmanuel Baptist Church where he faithfully attended church services including Adult Sunday School as well as Men's Breakfast on Saturdays. He read two chapters in the Old Testament and one chapter in the New Testament every day for years, including in the last few days of his life, making it all the way through the Bible a number of times.

Surviving him are two brothers, Carl and Francis Carlson of Wyoming, as well as daughter-in-law, Melanie and granddaughter Chelsea Carlson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara, sons Bill and Charley, and brothers, Walter and Burton. His second wife, Debbie, died on April 22nd, only sixteen days before John's passing.

A joint graveside service will be held to honor both John and Debbie McTier Carlson at the Roundup Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 30th.
